Connecting the Breakout Box

Is the breakout box connected to the control module?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Connecting the breakout box to the combined instrument panel

- Ignition off.
- Expose combined instrument panel according to Replacing the driver information control unit Replacing the Driver Information Control Unit.
- Disconnect combined instrument panel.
- Check that the male and female terminals in the combined instrument panel and cable harness connectors are intact and secure and that the wiring to the female terminals is properly attached to the terminal.
- Pay particular attention to the terminals related to the diagnostic trouble code (DTC)/symptom.
Connect adapter 981 3194 Replaced by 9511495 981 3194 Replaced by 951 1495 to combined instrument panel connectors A and B and connect the breakout box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428 to the adapter.

Checking ground terminals








- Ignition off.
- Switch off all equipment that takes power from the battery (courtesy lighting, radio etc).
Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and
#15 (#A15)
#17 (#A17) on the breakout box.









The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms for all readings

OK - Return to the fault-tracing procedure where it was interrupted.
No Fault Found

Not OK - Checking for an open-circuit

Check ground terminals 31/50 and 31/51 in the central electrical unit and their cables for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Check ground lead between central electrical unit and chassis for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.








- Ignition off.
- Combined instrument disconnected.
- Switch off all equipment that takes power from the battery (courtesy lighting, radio etc).
Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and
#15 (#A15)
#17 (#A17) on the breakout box.









The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms for all readings.
