Volvo Scan Tool (ST)
- Ignition on
- Connect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST)
- Print the comment sheet. See Diagnostic list for convertible tops Diagnostic List For Convertible Tops.
Read off the status of the potentiometer for the convertible top.

Yes - Calibrating the convertible system

No - Checking the component

Checking the component




- Ignition on
- Check the potentiometer connector. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Connect a voltmeter between potentiometer 1 and ground.
Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Connect a voltmeter between potentiometer 2 and ground.
Take the same reading as above.
Connect the voltmeter between potentiometer connector 3 and ground.
Take the same reading as above.
Replace the potentiometer if a short-circuit to supply voltage is found.
Remedy as necessary.

- Check control module connector C. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault
- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between control module C14 and ground.
Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Connect a voltmeter between control module C15 and ground.
Take the same reading as above.
Connect a voltmeter between control module C16 and ground.
Take the same reading as above.
Remedy as necessary.

- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter between control module C14 and potentiometer 1.
Check for an open-circuit. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Connect an ohmmeter between control module C15 and potentiometer 2.
Take the same reading as above.
Connect an ohmmeter between control module C16 and potentiometer 3.
Take the same reading as above.
Remedy as necessary.

Was an open-circuit found?

Yes - Verification

No - Checking the component

Note! If there is no open-circuit in the potentiometer, the ohmmeter reads 0 - 15 kohms.




- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter between potentiometer 1 (brown cable) and 2 (yellow cable).
Check for an open-circuit. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Connect an ohmmeter between potentiometer 1 (brown cable) and 3 (red / white cable).
Take the same reading as above.
Try a new potentiometer if an open-circuit is found.
Remedy as necessary.

Select Continue when the fault has been remedied.

Calibrating the convertible system
It is important that the potentiometer values are calibrated and programmed into the control module if the potentiometer has been replaced.
Carry out programming and calibration in VIDA.

Hint: After the repair it is necessary to check that the fault has been rectified.








- Ignition off
- Connect the connectors, install the components, etc.
- Ignition on
- Apply parking brake
- Close the luggage compartment lid
- Speed < 4km/h.
Operate the control switch to move the convertible top.
Move the convertible top to its end positions.

Does the convertible top work?

Yes - VERIFIED

No - VERIFICATION FAILED
