Signal Too High. Intermittent Fault
Signal too high. Intermittent fault
Checking the component
- Ignition on
- Check the potentiometer connector. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Connect a voltmeter between potentiometer 1 and ground.
Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Connect a voltmeter between potentiometer 2 and ground.
Take the same reading as above.
Connect a voltmeter between potentiometer 3 and ground.
Take the same reading as above.
Replace the potentiometer if a short-circuit is found.
Remedy as necessary.
Other information:
- To access and replace the potentiometer for the rear locking arm, see Replacing the potentiometer Replacing the Potentiometer.

Checking the component
Note! If there is no open-circuit in the potentiometer, the ohmmeter reads 0 - 15 kohms.
- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter between potentiometer 1 (brown cable) and 2 (yellow cable).
Check for an intermittent open-circuit. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Connect an ohmmeter between potentiometer 1 (brown cable) and 3 (red / white cable).
Take the same reading as above.
Try a new potentiometer if an open-circuit is found.
Remedy as necessary.

Fault-tracing information
If the fault is intermittent, do not verify fault-tracing if the fault does not recur.
It is possible to view the information again, or leave fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
