Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair

Airbag Control Module J234

• Installation location: in the direction of travel behind the selector mechanism, beneath the center console.

When working on the airbag control module (J234) , observe the general safety precautions. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units General Safety Precautions!

Removal

- Remove the gearshift mechanism trim. Refer to => [ Gearshift Mechanism Trim ] Gearshift Mechanism Trim.

- Switch the ignition on.

- Disconnect the vehicle battery.

- Release the auxiliary locking mechanism - 4 - in the - direction of the arrow - and press the button - 3 -.






- Open the lever - 2 - and remove the connector - 5 -.

- Unscrew the cap nut - 1 - (quantity: 3) (9 Nm).

- Remove the control module from the vehicle.

Installation

- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

- Switch the ignition on.

Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

- Connect the vehicle battery.

- If the control unit was replaced, it must be coded. Adapting components (coding). Refer to => [ Airbag Components, Adapting ] Testing and Inspection
