Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converter

Removing






- Remove the noise insulation - 1 and 2 -.

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Draining ] Coolant, Draining.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - and the noise insulation angle bracket.






- Remove the particulate filter. Refer to => [ Particulate Filter ] Particulate Filter.

- Remove the oxygen sensor 1 before catalytic converter. Refer to => [ Exhaust Sensor Overview ] Exhaust Sensor Overview.

- Remove the bolts - 1 -, loosen the bolt - 2 - and remove the turbocharger heat shield.






- Remove the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter to turbocharger nuts - arrows -.






- Remove the sensors accessible from above:






2 Catalyst temperature sensor 1
3 Exhaust gas temperature sensor 2
4 NOx sensor

- Remove the exhaust gas temperature sensor 3 (- 1 -) accessible from underneath.

• - 5 - was already removed.

- Remove the bolt - 1 -.






- Remove the left rear coolant pipe from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) auxiliary cooler.

• Ignore the - arrow -.

- Remove the heat shield - A - from the steering gear.






Risk of distorting the airbag spiral spring.

• Separate the universal joint from the steering gear only when the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.

• Secure the steering wheel with adhesive tape to prevent the position of the steering wheel and steering gear from changing.

- Remove the universal joint bolt - B -.

- Separate the universal joint from steering gear.

- Remove the bolt - arrow - for the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter bracket.













The subframe could cause an accident if it is not secured.

• Do not loosen the subframe bolts - 1, 3 and 4 -.

- Remove the bolts - 2 - to be able to lower the rear part of the subframe.

- Remove the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter toward the rear.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converter, Particulate Filter and Rear Exhaust Pipe Overview ] Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converter, Particulate Filter and Rear Exhaust Pipe Overview.

• Replace the gaskets and self-locking nuts.

• When installing, bring all wire ties back to the same positions.

- Install the subframe.

- Install the universal joint to the steering gear.

- Install the exhaust gas temperature sensor 3. Refer to => [ Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 3 G495 ] Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 3 G495.

- Install the exhaust gas temperature sensor 2. Refer to => [ Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 2 G448 ] Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 2 G448.

- Install the turbocharger heat shield.

- Install the NOx sensor and the oxygen sensor 1 before catalytic converter. Refer to the following:

=> [ Oxygen Sensor 1 before Catalytic Converter GX10 ] Oxygen Sensor 1 before Catalytic Converter GX10.

- Install the particulate filter. Refer to => [ Particulate Filter ] Particulate Filter.

- Install the exhaust system free of stress. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Exhaust System, Aligning.

- Fill the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Filling ] Coolant, Filling.

- Install the noise insulation angle bracket and the noise insulation.

- On a vehicle with air suspension, deactivate the vehicle lift mode.
