Removing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Adjustment Plate (3282/39)

Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383A)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Transmission Support Jig (3336)

Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)

Pin (3282/29)

Engine Support Basic Set (T40091)

Transmission mounting elements, (when mounting the adjustment plate (3282/39) on the transmission support jig (3336))

Grease for Clutch Splines (G 000 100)

- Determine whether a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain the anti-theft code.

- Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable.

- Remove the engine cover and air filter.

- Remove the battery and the battery tray.

- Remove the cable retainer from the selector cable. Refer to => [ Plastic Relay Lever ] Plastic Relay Lever.

- Remove the clip - arrow 1 - and then remove the relay lever and the cable retainer.





- Remove the shift cable lock washer - arrow 2 - from the selector lever - A -.

- Remove the shift cable from the pin.

- Remove the nut - arrow 3 - and then remove the transmission shift lever - A -.

- Remove the cable bracket support bolts - arrows - and support from the transmission.





- Tie up the shift cable and the selector cable.

- Remove the bracket - B - from the transmission and pull it off the hose/line assembly - A -.

- Remove the transmission support bolts - arrows A - and support.





- Remove slave cylinder bolts - arrow B - and lay the slave cylinder aside, secure with wire, do not open the hydraulic system.


Do not press the clutch pedal any more.

- Disconnect the connector - arrow 1 - from the backup lamp switch (F4).





- Remove the connector - arrow 2 - and wire - arrow 3 - from the starter.

- Disconnect the ground cable from the upper engine/transmission bolt.

- Remove the upper bolt on the starter.

- Remove the upper engine/transmission bolts.

- Remove the plenum chamber cover.

So that the engine and transmission can be supported:

- Remove the wires - 1 - from the transport strap - 3 -.





- Remove the transport strap - 3 - from the engine - 2 - and pull it out of the eye - arrow -.

- Attach one shackle (10 - 222 A/12) to this eye.

- Install the (10 - 222 A) and support the engine/transmission. Do not lift the vehicle.

- Use the (10 - 222 A/7) - 8 - to lengthen the right hook (10 - 222 A/10) - 10 -.

The hook points downward and will be engaged on the cylinder block later.

- Raise the vehicle and remove the left front wheel.

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the left front wheel housing liner.

Vehicles with Power Steering

- Remove the brackets and the power steering lines from the transmission.

Continuation For All

- Separate the exhaust system at the double clamp and remove the exhaust pipe bracket from the subframe.

- Remove the heat shield bolts - arrows - and shield from above the right drive axle, if equipped.





- Remove the drive axles from the flange shafts and tie them up as high as possible. Be careful not to damage the surface protection.

- Remove the bracket from the lower starter bolt, if equipped.

- Remove the lower bolt from the starter and then remove the starter.

- Remove the pendulum support, first remove bolt - A -, then bolts - B - and the support.





- Engage the (10 - 222 A/7) on the cylinder block.





Tension the right spindle one turn (more turns are not necessary).

- Support the engine and transmission with the left spindle. Do not lift the vehicle.

- Remove the left transmission mount bolts - arrows -.





- Angle the engine/transmission subassembly by lowering it using the spindles on the (10 - 222 A).

The bolts - arrows - for the transmission mount bracket - A - must be accessible.

- Remove the transmission mount bracket - A - bolts - arrows -.





To remove the transmission, the (3282) must be equipped the (3282/39).

- Install the (3282) to the (V.A.G 1383A).

- Align the arms on the (3282) so that they match up with the holes in the (3282/39).

- Install the mounting elements - A and C -, on the (3282/39), as illustrated.





- Position the (V.A.G 1383A) under the vehicle. The arrow symbol - B - on the (3282/39) points in direction of travel.

- Align the adjustment plate so that it is parallel to the transmission and secure the safety support to the transmission.





- Install the (3282/29) into the hole on the transmission for the pendulum support bolt.

- Remove the lower engine/transmission bolts.

- Remove the transmission from the alignment pins and carefully move it toward the subframe.





- Push the engine forward slightly with a 2nd technician.

- Guide the right flange shaft - arrow 2 - past the opening - arrow 1 -.





- Carefully lower the transmission.

- Guide the right flange shaft past the flywheel.

- Guide the transmission past the power steering line and past the subframe when lowering it.

- Use the spindles on the (3282) to adjust the position of the transmission while lowering it.

Pay attention to the lines when lowering the transmission.
