Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Service and Repair
Mass Airflow Sensor G70
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-60 Nm) (V.A.G 1783)
• Hose Clip Pliers (VAS 6362)
• Follow the safety precautions when working on the diesel direct injection system. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Diesel Fuel Injection.
• Observe the rules for cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Diesel Fuel Injection.
Always follow these instructions before and during work.
Removing
- Disconnect the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor connector - 1 -.
- Reposition the spring clamp - 4 - using hose clip pliers (VAS 6362) and disconnect the intake tube from the MAF sensor.
- Remove both screws from the MAF sensor and carefully remove it from the guide for the upper air filter housing.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
• Replace the O-ring if damaged
• If the air filter is very dirty or soaked, dirt particles or moisture may have contaminated the MAF sensor and may be causing false MAF values. This results in a reduction of power, since a lower injection quantity is calculated.
• Always use a original equipment air filter element. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
- Check the MAF sensor and the intake tube (clean air side) for contamination.
- Check the intake tube up to the air filter element for contamination. If any contaminants are discovered, clean the air filter housing (upper and lower) of salt residue, dirt and leaves (if necessary, clean by washing or vacuuming). • MAF sensor screw tightening specification: 3.5 Nm.
