Engine and Transmission Mount Overview


When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:

Route all lines and wires in their original locations.

For example, fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP), coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum lines.

Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.






1 Bolt

Tightening specifications, refer to one of the following:

With manual transmission.

With a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG(R)).

For the transmission mount bracket to the transmission.

2 Bolt

50 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

For the pendulum support to the transmission.

3 Engine Mount Bracket

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Engine Mount and Bracket ] Engine Mount and Bracket.

4 Bolt

40 Nm + an additional 180° (1/2) turn.

Always replace.

For the engine mount bracket to the cylinder block.

Observe the tightening sequence, refer to => [ Engine Mount Bracket to Cylinder Block Bolt Tightening Sequence ].

5 Engine Mount

6 Bolt

40 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

For the engine mount to the body.

7 Bracket

8 Bolt

20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

For the bracket to the body.

9 Bolt

20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

For the bracket to the engine mount.

10 Bolt

40 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

For the engine mount to the body.

11 Bolt

60 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

For the engine mount to the engine mount bracket.

12 Pendulum Support

13 Bolt

100 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

For the pendulum support to the subframe.

14 Bolt

60 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

For the transmission mount to the transmission mount bracket.

15 Bolt

40 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

For the transmission mount to the body.

16 Transmission Mount

The illustration shows the DSG(R) version.

17 Bolt

Tightening specifications, refer to one of the following:

With a manual transmission.

With a DSG(R).

For the transmission mount bracket to the transmission.

Engine Mount Bracket to Cylinder Block Bolt Tightening Sequence






Always use the correct tightening sequence and specifications for the engine mount bracket bolts. Otherwise tension could develop in the engine bracket and break it.

- First, tighten the bolts by hand in sequence - 1 through 3 -.

- Then, tighten the bolts in that sequence to specification, see - item 4 - in the overview.
