Engine Mount and Bracket
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine Support Bridge (10-222 A)
• Engine Support Adapter (10-222 A/3)
• Adapter (10-222 A/13)
• Adapter (10-222 A/18)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Hose Clip Pliers (VAS 6362)
Removing
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route all lines and wires in their original locations.
• For example, fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP), coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum lines.
• Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to => [ Engine Cover ] Engine Cover.
- Remove the intake tube between the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor and intake duct. Loosen the hose clamps using hose clip pliers (VAS 6362).
- Remove the filler tube from the windshield and headlamp washer fluid reservoir.
- Remove the coolant expansion tank from the body (the coolant lines remain connected).
- Remove the auxiliary fuel pump (the fuel lines remain connected). Refer to => [ Auxiliary Fuel Pump V393 (In-Line Electric Fuel Pump) ] Auxiliary Fuel Pump V393 (In-Line Electric Fuel Pump).
- Remove the fuel filter (the fuel lines remain connected). Refer to => [ Fuel Filter ] Fuel Filter.
- Remove the right front wheel housing liner.

Continuation for All
• The engine mount bolts may only be loosened when the engine is supported using the engine support bridge (10-222 A).
• The engine mount bracket may only be loosened only when the engine mount is removed.
- Loosen the engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts - 4 -.
- Remove the engine mount bolts - 5 - in the following sequence:
- First, remove the bolts - 3 -.
- Second, remove the bolts - 1 and 2 -.
- Finally, remove the bolts - 4 -.
- Remove the engine mount - 5 -.
Make sure that no components/hoses are damaged, overstretched or torn when lifting or lowering the engine using the engine support bridge (10-222 A).
• The bolt - 1 - can be accessed through an opening in the wheel housing. If necessary, raise or lower the engine using the spindle on the engine support bridge (10-222 A) to remove or install the bolts - 2 and 3 -.
- Remove the engine mount bracket bolts in sequence - 3 through 1 -.
- Remove the engine mount bracket upward.
Installing
Always use the correct tightening sequence and specification for the engine mount bracket bolts. Otherwise tension could develop in the engine mount bracket and break it.
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Engine and Transmission Mount Overview ] Engine and Transmission Mount Overview.
Install in the reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
- Install the engine mount bracket from above.
• The bolt - 1 - can be accessed through an opening in the wheel housing. If necessary, raise or lower the engine using the spindle on the engine support bridge (10-222 A) to remove or install the bolts - 2 and 3 -.
- First, tighten the bolts in sequence - 1 through 3 - by hand.
- Then, tighten the bolts in sequence - 1 through 3 - to specification.
- Install the engine mount - 5 - and tighten the new bolts to specification in the following sequence:
- First, tighten the bolts - 3 -.
- Secondly, tighten the bolts - 1 and 2 -.
- Then, using the spindle, bring the engine mount - 5 - into position on the engine mount bracket.
- Finally, tighten the bolts - 4 -.
- Check the position of the engine and transmission mounts. Refer to => [ Engine Mount Adjustment, Checking ] Engine Mount Adjustment, Checking.
Further installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:
• Make sure the fuel lines are securely fastened.
• Do not interchange the supply and return lines (the return line is blue or has a blue mark, the supply line is black).
