Removing

• The following describes removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

2-door vehicles

- Remove the B-pillar upper trim. Refer to => [ Upper B-Pillar Trim ] Upper B-Pillar Trim

- Remove the seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat

- Remove the backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Backrest

- Remove side trim. Refer to => [ Side Trim, 2-door ] Side Trim, 2-door

- Remove the storage compartment from the side luggage compartment cover. Refer to => [ Storage Compartment, Luggage Compartment Cover ] Storage Compartment, Luggage Compartment Cover

- Remove roof end strip. Refer to => [ Roof End Strip ] Roof End Strip

- Remove the C-pillar trim. Refer to => [ C-Pillar Trim ] C-pillar Trim.

4-door vehicles through 06.05

- Remove the seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat

- Remove 4-door side upholstery:

• With rear side airbag, refer to => [ Side Upholstery with Side Airbag, 4-door ] Side Upholstery with Side Airbag, 4-door

• Without rear side airbag, refer to => [ Side Upholstery, 4-door ] Side Upholstery, 4-door

- Remove the wheel housing trim, 4-door, refer to => [ Wheel Housing Trim, 4-door ] Wheel Housing Trim, 4-door

4-door vehicles with rear side airbag, from 06.05

- Remove 4-door side upholstery:

• With rear side airbag, refer to => [ Side Upholstery with Side Airbag, 4-door ] Side Upholstery with Side Airbag, 4-door

- Remove the wheel housing trim (4-door vehicle). Refer to => [ Wheel Housing Trim, 4-door ] Wheel Housing Trim, 4-door

4-door vehicles without rear side airbag, from 06.05

- Remove wheel housing trim on 4-door vehicles without rear side airbag => [ Trim, Wheel Housing, 4-door, Without Side Airbag, from 06.05 ] Trim, Wheel Housing, 4-door, Without Side Airbag, from 06.05

- Remove the storage compartment from the side luggage compartment cover. Refer to => [ Storage Compartment, Luggage Compartment Cover ] Storage Compartment, Luggage Compartment Cover

- Remove roof end strip. Refer to => [ Roof End Strip ] Roof End Strip

- Remove the C-pillar trim. Refer to => [ C-Pillar Trim ] C-pillar Trim.

- Remove the bolt - 1 - (40 Nm) and remove seat belt guide - 2 - from body.

Vehicles with belt tensioner


• Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions.

• Pay attention especially to the instructions for belt tensioners. Refer to => [ Belt Tensioner, Special Instructions ] Belt Tensioner, Special Instructions.

- Disconnect the battery.


Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before disconnecting the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the vehicle body or the door striker pin.

- Disconnect wiring harness - 3 -.

- Remove screw - 4 - (40 Nm) and remove automatic belt retractors - 5 - from body - arrow A -.

Vehicles without belt tensioner

- Remove screw - 6 - (40 Nm) and remove automatic belt retractors - 7 - from body - arrow B -.






Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal.
