Transmission, Installing

For the special tools needed, refer to one of the following:

With a gas engine, refer to => [ Transmission, Removing ] Transmission, Removing.

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal while observing the following:

- Check the needle bearing - arrow - inside the crankshaft. Replace the needle bearing if it is damaged or worn.

- If it is not damaged, lubricate lightly with high temperature grease (G 052 133 A2).

- Transmission pins (not splines) must also be lightly lubricated.

- Make sure both alignment sleeves between the engine and the transmission fit correctly.

- Make sure the intermediate plate fits correctly.

- Guide the selector lever cable into the cable bracket as soon as possible.

Check the cable when raising the transmission. Do not fail to place it in the cable bracket early.

The cable is not lubricated.

Guide the engine and transmission together by hand until the entire surface of both flanges come into contact with one another.

If they do not, something is incorrect!

- Adjust the transmission mount until the engine and transmission are aligned.

- Rotate the crankshaft slightly if necessary.

- Install the transmission without pinching any wires.

Risk of damaging threads in the transmission mount bracket by inserting the bolts crooked.

Before installing the bolts - 2 -, the transmission mount bracket and transmission mount support arm must be absolutely parallel to each other. If necessary, lift the back of the transmission using the engine-/gearbox jack.

Install the engine/transmission mount free of tension.

- Tighten the transmission mount to transmission mount bracket bolts - 2 - to 60 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn.

- Remove the engine support bridge (10-222 A) from the engine.

- Install the starter.

Connect the connector - A - to the DSG Mechatronic unit as follows:

- The arrows - D - on the Mechatronic unit - B -, the connector - A - as well as the tab - C - must line up.
