Transmission Oil, Draining and Filling

Use the transmission oil available as a replacement part. Refer to the Parts Catalog.

Short Description

First, the oil temperature is read out. If it is higher than 50 °C (122 °F), then let the transmission cool down.

Turn off the engine, remove the overflow tube and drain any transmission oil. Reinstall the overflow tube and overfill the transmission oil.

Start the engine and drain any excess oil until the oil level has reached the overflow tube.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Vehicle Diagnostic Tester

Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A)

Requirements:

The engine is off.

The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are the same height.

The noise insulation is removed if necessary

The selector level is in the "P" position.

The vehicle diagnostic tester is connected

The transmission oil should not be warmer than 45 °C (113 °F) when starting the procedure.

Procedure

- Follow the rules of cleanliness when working on the transmission.

- Only use the transmission oil for the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) available as a replacement part. Other oils can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.

Risk of injury due to hot gear oil.

- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions.

- Select DSG transmission.

- Select Check Fluid Level.

Allow the transmission cool down if the oil temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).

Do not start the engine if there is no transmission oil in the transmission.

- Engine off - do not start!

Place the drip tray for VAS 6100 or the used oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.

- Remove the transmission oil drain and inspection plug - arrow -.






A black plastic overflow tube is located in this hole (with a 8 mm hex socket head). Its length determines the oil level in the transmission.

- Remove the overflow tube - arrow - and allow let the oil to drain.






About 5 liters of oil will drain.

- Reinstall the overflow tube and tighten it to 3 Nm.

- Install the fitting from the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) into the plug hole hand tight.






- Shake the bottles before opening.






- Connect the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) to the oil bottle. Be sure to read the instructions. Refer to => [ Note the Following Information: ] Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling.

- Fill with 5.5 liters of transmission oil.

- To change containers, close the shut off lever or hold the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) higher than the transmission.

- Install and tighten the transmission oil drain and inspection plug - A - hand tight only.






- Start the engine.

- Press the brake pedal and select each selector lever position for approximately 3 seconds, then move the selector lever back into the "P" position.

- Do not turn off the engine.
