Right Flange Shaft and Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Drift Sleeve (3158)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)
• Use Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Socket and Extended Bit (T10107 A)
• Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the oil level thermal sensor (G266) , if equipped.
- Remove the right drive axle heat shield bolts - arrows - and shield, if equipped.
- Remove the right drive from the flange shaft.
- Tie the drive axle as high up as possible. Be careful not to damage the paint on the drive axle.
• On some engines, the drive axle cannot be tied up so that the flange shaft can be removed. Then, remove the right drive axle.
- Place the used oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.
- Remove the flange shaft bolt using the socket and extended bit (T10107 A).
The bolt has a 6 mm inner hex
- To remove and install the flange shaft, install 2 bolts into the flange and counter hold it using a pry bar.
- Remove the flange shaft together with the spring.
- Pry out the shaft seal.
Installing
- Lightly coat the outer circumference of the new shaft seal with oil.
- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1) - arrow -.
- Drive in the new shaft seal, without tilting it and until its seated using the drift sleeve (3158).
- Install the flange shaft.
- Tighten the new flange shaft bolts to 30 Nm. Push the flange shaft against the transmission so that the bolt engages in the threads.
- Install the right drive axle to the flange shaft or install the right drive axle.
- Install the right drive axle heat shield, if equipped.
- Check the transmission oil level and fill, as necessary. Refer to => [ Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling.
- Install the noise insulation.
