Left Flange Shaft and Seal






Left Flange Shaft and Seal

Do not remove bolt bolts for the left and right flange shafts at the same time. If the differential bevel gears inside the differential rotate, it will be difficult to reinstall the bolts.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Slide Hammer-Complete Set (VW 771)

Additional Part for VW 771 (VW 771/37)

Thrust Piece (3305)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

- Remove the left front wheel.

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the left front wheel housing liner.

- Remove the left drive axle.

- Place the used oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.

- Remove flange shaft bolt, by installing two bolts into the flange and counter holding the flange shaft using a pry bar.






- Remove the flange shaft together with spring.

- Pull out flange shaft seal using the slide hammer-complete set (VW 771) and the additional part for VW 771 (VW 771/37).






Installing

- Lightly coat the outer circumference of the new shaft seal with oil.

- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1) - arrow -.






- Drive in the new shaft seal, without tilting it and until its seated using the thrust piece (3305).






- Install the flange shaft.

- Tighten the new flange shaft bolt to 30 Nm. Push the flange shaft against the transmission so that the bolt engages in the threads.

- Install the left drive axle.

- Install the left front wheel housing liner.

- Install the left front wheel.

- Check the transmission oil level and fill, as necessary. Refer to => [ Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling.

- Install the noise insulation.
