Oil Pressure Sender: Testing and Inspection
Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil Pressure Gauge (V.A.G 1342)
• Voltage Tester (V.A.G 1527 B)
• Connector Test Set (V.A.G 1594 A)
• Function test and servicing the optical and acoustic oil pressure indicator.
Conditions
• The engine oil temperature is a minimum of 80 °C (176 °F).
• The engine oil level is OK.
Sequence
- Remove the oil pressure switch. Refer to => [ Oil Pressure Switch F1/Reduced Oil Pressure Switch F378 ] Oil Pressure Switch F1/Reduced Oil Pressure Switch F378.
- Install the oil pressure gauge (V.A.G 1342) in the hole for the oil pressure switch.
- Install the oil pressure switch - 2 - into the oil pressure gauge (V.A.G 1342).
- Connect the brown wire - 1 - from the oil pressure gauge to ground (-).
- Connect the voltage tester (V.A.G 1527 B) to the oil pressure switch and battery positive (+) using adapter cables from the connector test set (V.A.G 1594 C).
• The Light Emitting Diode (LED) must not light up.
If the LED lights up:
- Replace the oil pressure switch.
- Start the engine.
• While starting the engine, watch the pressure gauge and LED as the oil pressure switch may open during starting.
• At 0.7 to 1.1 bar pressure, the LED must light up.
If the LED does not light up:
- Replace the oil pressure switch.
Oil Pressure, Checking
- Start the engine.
• Oil pressure at idle: minimum 0.8 bar
• Oil pressure at 2000 RPM: minimum 1.5 bar
If the specified values are not obtained: the check-valve or oil pump is malfunctioning.
- Replace the oil pump. Refer to => [ Oil Pump ] Oil Pump.
