Instrument Panel
Removal
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove driver side airbag unit. Refer to => [ Driver Side Airbag ] Driver Side Airbag.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove turn signal switch and windshield wiper switch..
- Remove side instrument panel covers. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Side Covers ] .
- Remove center trim on A-pillars. Refer to => [ Center A-pillar Trim ] Center A-pillar Trim.
- Remove upper trim on A-pillars. Refer to => [ Upper A-pillar Trim ] Upper A-pillar Trim.
Jetta from MY 2005 and Golf Wagon from MY 2007
- Remove center cover. Refer to => [ Center Cover ] Center Cover.
- Remove center console:
• Basis (Jetta from MY 2005 and Golf Wagon from MY 2007), refer to => [ Center Console, Basis ] Center Console, Basis.
• Highline (Jetta from MY 2005 and Golf Wagon from MY 2007), refer to => [ Center Console, Highline ] Center Console, Highline.
- Remove the center instrument panel vents. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Center Vents without Climatronic ] Instrument Panel Center Vents without Climatronic.
- Remove center instrument panel trim. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Center Trim ] Instrument Panel Center Trim.
Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010
- Remove the trim in the center of the instrument panel (Jetta from MY 2010, Golf Wagon from MY 2010). Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Center Trim ] Instrument Panel Center Trim.
- Remove the trim around the heating and A/C controls (Jetta from MY 2010, Golf Wagon from MY 2010). Refer to => [ Heating and A/C Control Trim ] Heating and A/C Control Trim.
- Remove the center cover (Jetta from MY 2010, Golf Wagon from MY 2010). Refer to => [ Center Cover ] Center Cover.
- Remove center console:
• Basis (Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010), refer to=> [ Center Console, Basis ] Center Console, Basis.
• Highline (Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010), refer to => [ Center Console, Highline ] Center Console, Highline.
All Vehicles
- Remove glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] .
Vehicles with Radio System
- Remove the radio.
Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010
- Remove the storage compartment in the center of the instrument panel (Jetta from MY 2010, Golf Wagon from MY 2010). Refer to=> [ Center Storage Compartment in Instrument Panel ] Center Storage Compartment in Instrument Panel.
All Vehicles
Vehicles with Navigation
- Remove Navigation display and control head.
Vehicles with Climatic or Climatronic
- Remove controls for Climatic or Climatronic.
Vehicles with Heating
Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010
- Remove the vents in the center of the instrument panel (Jetta from MY 2010, Golf Wagon from MY 2010). Refer to=> [ Instrument Panel Center Vents ] Instrument Panel Center Vents.
- Remove heater controls.
All Vehicles
- Remove steering column trim. Refer to => [ Steering Column Trim ] .
- Remove the Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527).
- Remove the Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring (F138).
- Remove the Steering Angle Sensor (G85).
- Remove the Turn Signal Switch (E2).
- Remove the Windshield Wiper Switch (E).
- Remove instrument cluster.
- Remove left trim panel on driver side:
• without storage compartment, refer to => [ Left Driver Side Trim without Storage Compartment ] .
• with storage compartment, refer to => [ Left Driver Side Trim with Storage Compartment ] .
- Remove right trim panel on driver side. Refer to => [ Driver Side Right Trim ] .
- Remove footwell cover (driver side). Refer to => [ Driver Side Footwell Cover ] .
With Cell Phone Mount on Instrument Panel
- Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the cell phone mount. Refer to
- Remove the fuse panel.Fuse holder is not removed, but remains in vehicle.
- Remove the Sunlight Photo Sensor (G107) and the Sunlight Photo Sensor 2 (G134) if equipped.
Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010
- Remove the knee airbag (Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from 2010). Refer to => [ Knee Airbag ] Knee Airbag.
- Remove the two bolts - arrow - (1.5 Nm).
All Vehicles
- Remove two bolts - 1 - (9 Nm) from front passenger airbag.
- Remove bolts - 2 - - 3 - and - 4 - (3 Nm).
- Remove bolts - 1 - (1.5 Nm).
- Remove bracket - 2 -, remove bolts - 3 - (10 Nm) to do so.
- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - (3 Nm).
- Remove bolts - 1 - - 2 - and - 3 - (3 Nm).
- Pull instrument panel out of mounts - 1 - in windshield transition area.
- Depending on vehicle equipment, disconnect the corresponding wiring harnesses and remove instrument panel from vehicle with a second mechanic.
• When installing instrument panel, make sure that instrument panel is placed with exact fit into mounts - 1 -.
Installation
- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
