Bevel Box Overview
1 Left Seal
• Between the bevel box and the transmission.
• Remove the bevel box to replace, refer to the following:
Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.
• Replace the inner => [ (Item 2) Left Seal ] seal as well if there are leaks.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Bevel Box Seals ] Bevel Box Seals.
2 Left Seal
• Between the bevel box and the transmission.
• Remove the bevel box to replace, refer to the following:
Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.
• Replace the outer seal => [ (Item 1) Left Seal ] as well if there are leaks.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Bevel Box Seals ] Bevel Box Seals.
3 Bevel Box
• Removing and installing, refer to the following:
Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.
4 Seal
• Right (drive axle side)
• The seal can be replaced with the bevel box installed.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Right Seal, Drive Axle Side ] Bevel Box Seals.
5 Protective Cap
• Right (drive axle side), if equipped.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Right Seal, Drive Axle Side ] Bevel Box Seals.
6 Circlip
• Always replace.
• Insert in the groove in the flange shaft.
7 Seal
• Always replace.
• Insert in the groove in the flange shaft.
8 Flange Shaft
• Remove the bevel box to remove and install, refer to the following:
Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing ] Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing.
9 Needle Bearing (Polygon Bearing)
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing ] Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing.
10 Circlip
• Always replace.
11 Nut
• 480 Nm
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Output Flange Seal, Bevel Box Removed ] Bevel Box Seals.
• Insert using liquid locking fluid (D 000 600 A2).
12 Output Flange
• Removing and Installing, refer to => [ Output Flange Seal, Bevel Box Removed ] Bevel Box Seals
13 Seal
• Remove the bevel box to replace, refer to the following:
Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Output Flange Seal, Bevel Box Removed ] Bevel Box Seals.
14 Bolt
• 25 Nm
• Tighten in a diagonal sequence.
15 Pinion Housing
• With the shaft bevel gear
• The drive pinion housing only fits in one position.
• Installing, place the drive pinion housing loosely on the bevel box, tighten all the bolts by hand and then counter turn and tighten the bolts on alternating sides.
16 Seal
• To replace, remove the bolts => [ (Item 14) Bolt ] and carefully pry the drive pinion housing out at the tabs protruding all the way around.
• Do not remove the nut => [ (Item 11) Nut ] and output flange => [ (Item 12) Output Flange ].
