Tie Rod
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench 5-50 Nm (VAG 1331)
• Torque wrench 40-200 Nm (VAG 1332)
Removing
- Remove the wheel.
- Remove the coil spring. Refer to --> [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.
- Remove the nut - 1 - and remove the coupling rod - 2 - from the stabilizer bar.
- Remove bolt - arrow - for the tie rod - 3 -.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - for the stabilizer bar bracket.
- Remove the nut - arrow - and remove the bolt toward the rear.
- Remove the tie rod.
Installing
- Insert the tie rod into the vehicle and tighten the bolts by hand.
- Bring the wheel bearing housing into curb weight position. Refer to --> [ Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position.
Only tighten the bolts if dimension "a" has been reached. Refer to--> [ between the wheel hub center and the lower edge of the wheel housing has been attained. ] Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position!
- Bolt the tie rod to the subframe and tighten the new nut.
- Install and tighten the stabilizer bar bracket bolts - arrows -.
- Tighten the bolt - arrow - for the tie rod - 3 -.
- Install the coupling rod - 2 - to the stabilizer bar and tighten the nut - 1 -.
- Install the coil spring. Refer to --> [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.
- Install the wheel and tighten. Refer to --> [ Wheel Bolt Tightening Specification ] Specifications.
- Perform a vehicle alignment. Refer to --> [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
