Turbocharger Vacuum Diaphragm, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hand vacuum pump (VAS 6213)
Test Conditions
• Hose from the turbocharger over the wastegate bypass regulator valve must have continuity to the vacuum diaphragm.
• Wastegate bypass regulator valve is OK.
Work Procedure
- Remove the engine cover/upper air filter housing. Refer to => [ Engine Cover/Upper Air Filter Housing ] Engine Cover/Upper Air Filter Housing.
- Connect the (VAS 6213) to the vacuum diaphragm - arrow -.
- Set the slide ring - 1 - on the (VAS 6213) to position - B - for "pressure".
CAUTION!
The pressure must not exceed 750 mbar. If the pressure is exceeded, the vacuum diaphragm can be damaged.
- Operate the (VAS 6213) several times and observe the rods.
The linkage - A - must move approximately 300 mbar and be at approximately 700 mbar at end position.
Actuator lift is approximately 10 mm.
• If the pressure cannot be raised with the (VAS 6213) or the pressure drops immediately, check the (VAS 6213) and connecting hoses for leaks. If no malfunction can be found: Replace the vacuum diaphragm. Refer to => [ Turbocharger Vacuum Diaphragm ] Service and Repair.
