Turbocharger Vacuum Diaphragm, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hand vacuum pump (VAS 6213)

Test Conditions

Hose from the turbocharger over the wastegate bypass regulator valve must have continuity to the vacuum diaphragm.

Wastegate bypass regulator valve is OK.

Work Procedure

- Remove the engine cover/upper air filter housing. Refer to => [ Engine Cover/Upper Air Filter Housing ] Engine Cover/Upper Air Filter Housing.

- Connect the (VAS 6213) to the vacuum diaphragm - arrow -.





- Set the slide ring - 1 - on the (VAS 6213) to position - B - for "pressure".





CAUTION!
The pressure must not exceed 750 mbar. If the pressure is exceeded, the vacuum diaphragm can be damaged.

- Operate the (VAS 6213) several times and observe the rods.

The linkage - A - must move approximately 300 mbar and be at approximately 700 mbar at end position.

Actuator lift is approximately 10 mm.





If the pressure cannot be raised with the (VAS 6213) or the pressure drops immediately, check the (VAS 6213) and connecting hoses for leaks. If no malfunction can be found: Replace the vacuum diaphragm. Refer to => [ Turbocharger Vacuum Diaphragm ] Service and Repair.
