Front Brake Caliper Removal and Installation

Front Brake Components

WARNING:

Remove flexible hose washer cannot assure adequate sealing. If the washer is reused, brake fluid may leak, which could result an accident.

Always use new flexible hose washer when reinstalling the flexible hose.

NOTE:

Failure to take proper precautions during brake pad removal may cause damage to the brake flexible hose and/or the brake piston.

- Be careful not to damage the brake flexible hose during brake pad removal.
- Avoid depressing the brake pedal during the brake pad removal procedure to prevent the brake piston from being forced out of the cylinder.

Removal

1) Hoist vehicle and remove front wheel. Removal and Replacement
2) Place a container to catch brake fluid below front brake caliper (2).
3) Remove flexible hose joint bolt (1) from front brake caliper (2).





4) Remove front brake caliper pin bolts (1).
5) Remove front brake caliper cylinder (2) from front brake caliper carrier (3).





6) Remove brake pads. Front Brake Pad Removal and Installation
7) Remove brake caliper bolts (1) and remove caliper carrier (2) from steering knuckle.






Installation

Front Brake Caliper Inspection

NOTE:

If the flexible hose is twisted, the hose will be damaged.

If the hose is twisted, reinstall it being careful not to let it get twisted.

1) Install front brake caliper carrier (1) to steering knuckle and tighten brake caliper pin bolts to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Front brake caliper carrier bolt (a): 155 Nm (15.8 kgf-m, 114.5 lbf-ft)





2) Install brake pads. Front Brake Pad Removal and Installation
3) Install front brake caliper (2) to front brake caliper carrier and tighten front brake caliper pin bolts (1) to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Front brake caliper pin bolt (a): 34 Nm (3.5 kgf-m, 25.0 lbf-ft)





4) Install brake flexible hose (1) to front brake caliper with new flexible hose gasket (2) and tighten flexible hose joint bolt to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Flexible hose joint bolt (a): 23 Nm (2.3 kgf-m, 17.0 lbf-ft)





5) Fill reservoir with brake fluid and bleed air from brake system. Service and Repair
6) Make sure there is no leakage of brake fluid.
7) Install front wheel. Removal and Replacement
8) Check that brake system operates properly.
