Speedometer Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The meter ECU receives vehicle speed signals from the skid control ECU via the CAN communication lines. The vehicle speed sensor detects the voltage that varies according to the vehicle speed. The skid control ECU supplies power to the vehicle speed sensor. The skid control ECU detects vehicle speed signals based on the pules of the voltage.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM)
(a) Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
(c) Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(d) Clear the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(e) Recheck for DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Result:






B -- GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM)
(a) Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
(c) Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(d) Clear the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(e) Recheck for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

C -- GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
B -- GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
A -- Continue to next step.
3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER)
(a) Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
(c) Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Active Test" Meter / Gauge System.
Body Electrical / Combination meter / Active Test::






OK:
Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is approximately the same as that of the speedometer reading.
NG -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER)
(a) Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch on and the tester on.
(c) Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List" Meter / Gauge System.

OK:
Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is approximately the same as the actual vehicle speed
NOTE: Determine whether the value displayed on the tester is within the acceptable range by referring to reference values described in "ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION" On-Vehicle Inspection.

NG -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
OK -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
(a) Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or normal one Removal.
OK:
The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.
Result:






C -- REPLACE ABS AND TRACTION ACTUATOR (SKID CONTROL ECU)
B -- REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR (SKID CONTROL ECU)
A -- END
