Instrument Panel Tie Bar Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution (Battery Disconnect Caution) .
Important: Disconnect the battery and wait 1 minute for the capacitor to discharge. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair) .
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Remove the front doors. Refer to Front Side Door Replacement (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) padding. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair) .
4. Remove the passenger airbag. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement (Service and Repair) .
5. Remove the steering column support tube. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement) .
6. Remove the fan motor series resistor wiring harness plug (3).
7. Remove the clutch pedal bearing support from the steering crossmember.
Remove the 2 bolts (2).
8. Remove the brake pedal bearing support from the steering crossmember.
Remove the 2 bolts (1).
9. Remove the wiring harness from the steering crossmember.
1. Remove the 3 ground cables.
2. Remove the 3 nuts.
3. Disconnect the wiring harness.
10. Disengage and disconnect the brake pedal and accelerator pedal wiring harness plugs.
Remove the clip.
11. Remove the I/P tie bar center bracket.
Remove the bolt (4).
Important: Avoid damaging the interior.
12. Remove the I/P tie bar.
Remove the 4 bolts (arrows).
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .
Important:
* Avoid damaging the interior.
* Use screw locking compound when inserting bolts.
1. Install the I/P tie bar.
Tighten the 4 bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
Important: Use screw locking compound when inserting bolts.
2. Install the I/P tie bar center bracket.
Tighten the bolt to 13 N.m (113 lb in).
3. Install the brake pedal and accelerator pedal wiring harness plugs.
Install the clip.
4. Install the wiring harness to the I/P tie bar.
* Install the wiring harness.
* Install the 3 ground cables.
Tighten the 3 nuts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
Important: Use screw locking compound when inserting bolts.
5. Install the brake pedal bearing support on the I/P tie bar.
Tighten the 2 bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
Important: Use screw locking compound when inserting bolts.
6. Install the clutch pedal bearing support on the I/P tie bar.
Tighten the 2 bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
7. Connect the fan motor series resistor wiring harness plug.
8. Install the steering column support tube. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement) .
9. Install the passenger airbag. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement (Service and Repair) .
10. Install the I/P padding. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair) .
11. Install the front doors. Refer to Front Side Door Replacement (Service and Repair) .
12. Connect the battery.
13. For reprogramming procedures, refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) .
