MVA 4 Speed - Automatic Transmission




Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the front floor console assembly. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement).
3. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
4. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the engine cover assembly. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the air cleaner cap sub-assembly.
7. Disconnect the oxygen sensor.
8. Remove the front exhaust pipe assembly. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement (2.4L AWD) (Service and Repair)Front Pipe Replacement (2.4L FWD) (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the air cleaner case sub-assembly.




10. Remove the front No. 1 floor heat insulator.
11. Remove the nuts (1) and the front No. 1 floor heat insulator.
12. Remove the transmission control cable assembly.
13. Move the shift lever to N.




14. Disconnect the end of the transmission control cable assembly (1) from the shift lever assembly.





Note: Do not remove the stopper. If the stopper is removed, reinstall it to its original position.

15. Pull out the stopper of the transmission control cable.

Note: Do not over-rotate the nut as it will come off the internal spring and the transmission control cable will not be reusable.

16. Rotate the nut counterclockwise approximately 180 degrees, while holding the nut in that position, disconnect the transmission control cable from the shift lever retainer.




17. Remove the nut (1) and disconnect the control cable assembly from the control shaft lever.
18. Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the control cable bracket.




19. Disconnect the control cable assembly (1) from the control cable bracket.




20. Remove the nut (1) and separate the transmission control cable support.




21. Remove the nuts (1) and separate the transmission control cable assembly.
22. Pull out the transmission control cable assembly.

Installation Procedure

Note: Before installing the transmission control cable assembly, check that the park/neutral position switch and the shift lever are in neutral.

1. Install the transmission control cable assembly.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Put the transmission control cable into the cabin and connect the transmission control cable with the nuts (1) and tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb in).




3. Install the transmission control cable support with the nut (1) and tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb in).




4. Connect the transmission control cable (1) to the control cable bracket.




5. Connect the transmission control cable to the bracket with a new clip.
6. Connect the transmission control cable assembly to the control shaft lever with the nut (1) and tighten to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).




7. Turn the nut of the transmission control cable 180 degrees counterclockwise. While holding the nut (2) in place, push in the stopper until the stopper clicks twice.





Note: If the stopper (1) cannot be pushed in, slightly turn the nut clockwise and then push in the stopper again.

8. Install the outer part of the transmission control cable to the shift lever retainer. Check that the spring is positioned at "A" and push in the stopper.




9. Push the claws (1) together at the top of the transmission control cable lock piece. While holding the claws together, push the lugs on the bottom of the lock piece toward each other and upward to pull out the lock piece.





Note: Check that the lock piece (1) is pulled up.

10. Install the cable end all the way to the base of the pin.
11. Install the cable end to the shift lever assembly.





Note: Securely push in the lock piece (1) until it locks.

12. Push the lock piece into the adjuster case.




13. Install the front No. 1 floor heat insulator with the nuts (1) and tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb in).
14. Install the air cleaner case sub-assembly.
15. Install the front exhaust pipe assembly. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement (2.4L AWD) (Service and Repair)Front Pipe Replacement (2.4L FWD) (Service and Repair).
16. Connect the oxygen sensor.
17. Install the air cleaner cap sub-assembly.
18. Install the engine cover assembly. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
19. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (Service and Repair).
20. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
21. Install the front floor console assembly. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement).
22. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
23. Inspect the shift lever position.
24. Adjust the shift lever position.
