Headliner: Service and Repair

Headlining Trim Panel Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Disable the air bag system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the center pillar upper trim panel. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement).
3. Lower the door opening frame weather strips (1, 2) on the front and rear door pinch weld flanges.
4. Remove the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the windshield side garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Without Roof Side Rail Restraint) (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Without Roof Side Rail Restraint))Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (With Roof Side Rail Restraint) (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (With Roof Side Rail Restraint)).
6. Remove the sunshades and retainers. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Service and Repair) and Sunshade Anchor Replacement (Sunshade Anchor Replacement).
7. Remove the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement (Map Lamp With Sunroof) (Dome Lamp Replacement (Map Lamp With Sunroof))Dome Lamp Replacement (Map Lamp Without Sunroof) (Dome Lamp Replacement (Map Lamp Without Sunroof))Dome Lamp Replacement (Center and Rear) (Dome Lamp Replacement (Center and Rear)).
8. Remove the quarter upper trim panel. Refer to Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement).




9. Disconnect the rear view mirror connector (9), if equipped.
10. Disengage the retainers (7) from the left windshield pillar
11. Disconnect the roof wire electrical connectors (8) from the instrument panel junction block.
12. Disconnect the electrical connectors (4) from the antenna cord sub assembly and remove the bolt (5) from the right rear pillar.
13. Remove the sunroof glass weather-strip. Refer to Sunroof Glass Panel Weatherstrip Replacement (Service and Repair).
14. Disconnect the sunroof gear drive electrical connector (3), if equipped.
15. Remove the two retainers (6) which secure the rear of the headlining trim finish panel.




16. Lower the front seat back cushions in order to gain clearance to remove the headlining trim finish panel.
17. Lower the headlining trim finish panel (1). Remove the headlining through a rear door.




18. Remove the roof silencer pads (1), if equipped without sunroof.




19. Remove the roof silencer pads (1), if equipped with sunroof.




20. Remove the center roof silencer pads (1), if equipped without sunroof.
21. Remove the radio antenna extension cable. Refer to Radio Antenna Cable Extension Cable Replacement (Radio Antenna Cable Extension Cable Replacement).




22. Remove the adhesive tape that secures the wire harness to the headliner, if equipped without sunroof.
23. Remove the wire harness from the headliner.




24. Remove the adhesive tape that secures the wire harness to the headliner, if equipped with sunroof.
25. Disengage the three retainers (1) and remove the wire harness from the headliner.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the wire harness to the headliner and engage the three retainers (1), if equipped with sunroof.
2. Install the adhesive tape that secures the wire harness to the headliner.




3. Install the wire harness to the headliner, if equipped without sunroof.
4. Install the adhesive tape that secures the wire harness to the headliner.




5. Install the radio antenna extension cable. Refer to Radio Antenna Cable Extension Cable Replacement (Radio Antenna Cable Extension Cable Replacement).
6. Install the center roof silencer pads (1), if equipped without sunroof.




7. Install the roof silencer pads (1), if equipped with sunroof.




8. Install the roof silencer pads (1), if equipped without sunroof.




9. Position the headlining trim finish panel into the vehicle through the rear door.
10. Raise the front seat back cushions.




11. Install the two retainers (6) which secure the rear of the headlining trim finish panel.
12. Connect the sunroof gear drive electrical connector (3), if equipped.
13. Connect the electrical connectors (4) to the antenna cord sub assembly and install the bolt (5) to the right rear pillar.
14. Install the sunroof glass weather-strip. Refer to Sunroof Glass Panel Weatherstrip Replacement (Service and Repair).
15. Connect the roof wire electrical connectors (8) to the instrument panel junction block.
16. Engage the retainers (7) to the left windshield pillar
17. Connect the rear view mirror connector (9), if equipped.




18. Install the quarter upper trim panel. Refer to Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement).
19. Install the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement (Map Lamp With Sunroof) (Dome Lamp Replacement (Map Lamp With Sunroof))Dome Lamp Replacement (Map Lamp Without Sunroof) (Dome Lamp Replacement (Map Lamp Without Sunroof))Dome Lamp Replacement (Center and Rear) (Dome Lamp Replacement (Center and Rear)).
20. Install the sunshades and retainers. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Service and Repair) and Sunshade Anchor Replacement (Sunshade Anchor Replacement).
21. Install the windshield side garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Without Roof Side Rail Restraint) (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Without Roof Side Rail Restraint))Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (With Roof Side Rail Restraint) (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (With Roof Side Rail Restraint)).
22. Install the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement (Service and Repair).
23. Install the door opening frame weather strips (1, 2) on the front and rear door pinch weld flanges.
24. Install the center pillar upper trim panel. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement).
25. Enable the air bag system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
