B1500 - Fuel Sender Open Detected

DESCRIPTION

This DTC is output when the No. 1 meter ECU detects the fuel sender gauge malfunction via the CAN.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

(a) Check for the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result





B -- Go to CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM CAN Communication System
A -- Continue to next step.

2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE)

(a) Operate the Techstream according to the steps on the display and select "Active Test".

OK:

Needle indication is normal.

Combination Meter:





NG -- REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU Disassembly
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL SENDER GAUGE)

(a) Operate the Techstream according to the display and select the "Data List".

OK:

Fuel value displayed on Techstream is almost same as needle indication

Combination Meter:





NG -- INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (MAIN)

OK -- REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU Disassembly

4. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (MAIN)





(a) Remove the fuel sender gauge (main) Disassembly.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (MAIN) Disassembly
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (SUB)





(a) Remove the fuel sender gauge (sub) Disassembly.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (SUB) Disassembly
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (REAR JUNCTION BLOCK - FUEL SENDER GAUGE)





(a) Disconnect the S61 junction block connector.

(b) Disconnect the S11 and R10 gauge connectors.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL SENDER GAUGE (MAIN) - FUEL SENDER GAUGE (SUB))





(a) Disconnect the S11 and R10 gauge connectors.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

8. REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU

(a) Temporarily replace the No. 1 meter ECU with a new one Disassembly.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

9. CHECK NO. 1 METER ECU (FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE)

(a) Check that the operation of the fuel sender gauge in the meter returns to normal Operation Check.

OK:

Operation of the fuel sender gauge returns to normal.

NG -- REPLACE LUGGAGE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY (REAR JUNCTION BLOCK ECU)

OK -- END (NO. 1 METER ECU IS DEFECTIVE)
