Normal Operation
The Smart Junction Box (SJB) sends a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) voltage to the dimmable components.
When the accessory delay relay is energized, voltage is supplied to the rear heated seat switches, door lock control switches, roof opening panel switch (if equipped) and the window control switches.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Adjustable pedal switch
- Ambient lighting switch (if equipped)
- Luggage compartment lid release switch (if equipped)
- Instrument panel dimmer switch
- SJB (Smart Junction Box)
- Floor shifter
- Rear heated seat switches
- Rear sunshade switch
- Hazard flasher lamp switch
- Headlamp switch
- Message center switch
- Roof opening panel control switch (if equipped)
- Door lock control switches
- Start/stop switch
- Window control switches
PINPOINT TEST E : ONE OR MORE SWITCH ILLUMINATION IS INOPERATIVE
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
E1 DETERMINE THE TYPE OF BACKLIGHTING TO THE INOPERATIVE SWITCH
- Review the Description and Operation of the Instrument Cluster and Panel Illumination Instrument Cluster and Panel Illumination to determine the type of backlighting the switch/component has.
Is the switch/component a dimmable backlighting type?
Yes
GO to E2.
No
GO to E3.
E2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE - DIMMABLE COMPONENTS
NOTE: If the headlamp switch illumination is the inoperative source, unplug the headlamp switch connector to measure the illumination circuit voltage. Unplugging the connector causes the SJB (Smart Junction Box) to turn the exterior lights on by default for 10 minutes, so it is unnecessary to turn on the headlamp switch.
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Illumination Source.
- Place the headlamp switch to the PARKING LAMPS ON position and push the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
- Measure the voltage between the inoperative illuminated component, harness side and ground as follows:
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
For the rear sunshade switch, INSTALL a new sunshade switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
For a luggage compartment release switch, INSTALL a new door lock switch. REFER to Doors, Hood and Trunk &/or Locks. TEST the system for normal operation.
For a instrument panel dimmer switch, INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
For a start/stop switch, INSTALL a new start/stop switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
For the hazard/PAD (Passenger Air Bag Deactivation) /traction control switch, INSTALL a hazard/PAD (Passenger Air Bag Deactivation) /traction control switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
For all other components, GO to E4.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
E3 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE - NON-DIMMABLE COMPONENTS
NOTE: Make sure the power windows are not locked out from the master (LH front) window control switch.
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Illumination Source.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the inoperative illuminated component, harness side and ground as follows:
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
For the roof opening panel control switch, INSTALL a new roof opening panel control switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
For a door lock control switch, INSTALL a new door lock switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
For a rear heated seat switch, INSTALL a new rear heated seat switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
For all other components, GO to E4.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
E4 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND
- For a dimmable component, measure the voltage between the inoperative illuminated component connector, harness side as follows:
- For a non-dimmable component, measure the voltage between the inoperative illuminated component connector, harness side as follows:
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new component in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the ground circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
