Instrument Cluster and Panel Illumination
Instrument Cluster and Panel Illumination
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
Functional Components
The backlighting system consist of the following components:
Dimmable Components
- Adjustable pedal switch
- Ambient lighting switch (if equipped)
- Luggage compartment lid release switch
- Instrument panel dimmer switch
- SJB (Smart Junction Box)
- Floor shifter
- Rear sunshade switch
- Headlamp switch
- Message center switch
- Steering wheel switches
- Start/stop switch (if equipped)
- ACM (Audio Control Module) (vehicles with navigation)
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
- FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module)
- FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) (vehicles without navigation)
The dimmable illumination is used to provide backlighting to the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), switches, and control components (such as the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) and the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module)) when the parking lamps are on.
If the exterior lamps are activated during daytime sunload conditions, the message center illumination remains at full intensity and does not dim from the instrument panel dimmer switch during this condition. If the vehicle travels under a bridge or a tunnel, the low level of ambient light causes the illumination level of the message center to change to the level set by the instrument panel dimmer switch. The message center illumination changes back to full intensity when the intense ambient light is restored.
The digital dimmer switch is a double detent rocker switch used to control all dimmable interior illuminated components, and to control the courtesy lamps. The first up detent increases dimmable backlighting intensity. The first down detent decreases dimmable backlighting intensity.
The second up detent turns on the courtesy lamps. The second down detent turns the courtesy lamps off unless other features are still requesting the courtesy lamps on.
Non-Dimmable Components
- Door lock control switches
- Window control switches
- Roof opening panel switch (if equipped)
- Rear heated seat switches
The non-dimmable illumination is used to provide backlighting to switches when the ignition is in the ACC or RUN position.
