Warning Chime Characteristics
The warning chimes use volume, chime frequency, length of time the chime sounds, decay of the chime tone and the number of chime tones to identify which chime is sounding. Most warning chimes have unique characteristics, however, there are chimes that do sound the same. The chime characteristics are defined by the different chime types:
- Information
- Soft-warning
- Hard-warning
- Tick-tock (on-off)
Active Park Assist Warning Chime
The park assist warning chime is used to inform the driver that a parking slot is found. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) allows the driver to enable or disable the active park assist warning chime through the message center menu.
Belt-Minder Feature
The Belt-Minder(R) is configurable. REFER to Belt-Minder Deactivating and Activating Testing and Inspection.
The Belt-Minder(R) feature supplements the current safety belt warning function and is enabled after the current safety belt warning is complete by reminding the driver that the driver or front passenger safety belt is unbuckled by intermittently sounding a chime and and simultaneously illuminating the safety belt warning indicator in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). The Belt-Minder(R) begins once the current safety belt warning has ended and the vehicle speed has exceeded 9.7 km/h (6 mph) with the driver or passenger front safety belt unbuckled. While activated, the Belt-Minder(R) chime provides a series of 6 chimes/safety belt warning indicator flash sequences, which consist of a 1 second chime tone and safety belt warning indicator on/off state.
If the vehicle speed drops below 4.8 km/h (3 mph) once the Belt-Minder(R) chime has activated, the chime turns off and the safety belt warning indicator remains on. When the vehicle speed exceeds 9.7 km/h (6 mph) again, the Belt-Minder(R) chime resumes.
The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) controls the Belt-Minder(R) and receives the vehicle speed and safety belt status messages from the BCM (Body Control Module). The BCM (Body Control Module) receives the vehicle speed message from the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module and the safety belt status message from the RCM (Restraints Control Module).
NOTE: Whenever the vehicle is operated using MyKey(R) , the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) enables the Belt-Minder(R).
When MyKey(R) is in use, the driver cannot configure the Belt-Minder(R) off. Once the Belt-Minder(R) is activated, the Belt-Minder(R) continues to chime periodically (does not time out after 5 minutes) and the audio system is muted until the driver and passenger safety belts are fastened.
Door Ajar Warning Chime
The door ajar warning chime warns that a door is ajar. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the driver door, passenger door, driver rear door, passenger rear door ajar, liftgate/luggage compartment and hood ajar status from the BCM (Body Control Module). When a door, liftgate/luggage compartment or hood becomes ajar while the ignition is in RUN with vehicle speed greater than 3 km/h (1.9 mph), the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) turns on the appropriate door ajar warning message and sounds a repetitive chime until the door, liftgate/luggage compartment or hood is closed.
Headlamps On Warning Chime
The headlamps on warning chime warns that the headlamps are on when the driver door is ajar and the key is removed from the ignition lock cylinder (without IA (Intelligent Access)) or when the ignition is OFF (with IA (Intelligent Access)). The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the position light indication message from the BCM (Body Control Module). The headlamps on warning chime sounds if the driver door is ajar, the headlamp switch is in the PARK or HEADLAMP position and the ignition is OFF (key out without IA (Intelligent Access)). The headlamps on chime sounds a repetitive chime tone.
Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime
The key-in-ignition warning chime warns that the key is still in the ignition lock cylinder when the driver door is ajar (without IA (Intelligent Access)) or that the ignition is in the RUN mode with the engine off (IA (Intelligent Access) only). The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the power mode status message from the BCM (Body Control Module). The key-in-ignition warning chime sounds when the driver door is ajar, the key is in the ignition lock cylinder and in the off/lock or accessory position (without IA (Intelligent Access)) or when the ignition is in the RUN mode with the engine off (IA (Intelligent Access) only).
Perimeter Alarm Warning Chime
The perimeter alarm warning chime alerts the driver that the perimeter alarm is armed when the driver door is unlocked before disarming the alarm. The warning chime sounds for 12 seconds when the driver door is opened and turns off when the perimeter alarm is disarmed (either by using the key fob or turning the key to the ON position). After the 12 second warning chime duration, the warning chime stops sounding and the perimeter alarm activates, sounding the horn and flashing the turn signal lamps. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the alarm mode message from the BCM (Body Control Module).
Safety Belt Warning Chime
The safety belt warning chime warns that the safety belt is not fastened. The safety belt warning chime sounds a repetitive chime tone for 6 seconds when the driver safety belt is not fastened and the ignition is transitioned from OFF or accessory to ON or START. The safety belt warning chime stops sounding when the safety belt is fastened, when the ignition is transitioned from ON or START to OFF or accessory, or when the chime has sounded for 6 seconds. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the safety belt status messages from the BCM (Body Control Module).
Turn Signal On Chime Tone
The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) provides a repetitive tick-tock along with visual RH (Right Hand)/ LH (Left Hand) turn indicator to inform the driver the turn signal or hazard lamp function is on. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the turn indicator command from the BCM (Body Control Module).
Parking Brake Warning Chime
The parking brake warning chime warns that the parking brake is engaged when the vehicle is in motion. The parking brake warning chime sounds if the ignition is in RUN, the parking brake is engaged, and the vehicle speed is greater than 10 km/h (6.2 mph). The parking brake warning chime stops sounding and resets if the parking brake is released, the ignition is not in the RUN mode, the vehicle speed is less than 10 km/h (6.2 mph), or after 90 seconds from the time the chime is activated. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the parking brake warning request from the BCM (Body Control Module).
Remote Key Programming Confirmation Chime
The perimeter alarm programming confirmation chime sounds to inform the driver that the remote key programming mode has been entered successfully. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the alarm/key programming chime request from the BCM (Body Control Module).
Key Left In Vehicle Chime - with Intelligent Access (IA)
The key left in vehicle chime is used to indicate to the driver that the passive key is in the luggage compartment. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the passive key status message from the BCM (Body Control Module).
Passive Key Out Of Vehicle Chime - with Intelligent Access (IA)
The passive key out of the vehicle chime warns that the passive key transponder is not inside the vehicle. REFER to No Key Detected Message . The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) requires 2 messages to control the passive key out of vehicle chime. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the passive key status message from the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module and the vehicle speed message from the BCM (Body Control Module). When the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the passive key status message indicating that the passive key is out of the vehicle, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sounds a chime tone and displays a message in the message center.
Hill Start Assist Chime
The hill start assist chime provides a chime to draw the driver to the message center to view the status of the hill start assist system. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the hill start assist chime message from the BCM (Body Control Module). The BCM (Body Control Module) receives the hill start assist chime message from the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module.
Headlamp Exit Delay Chime
The headlamp exit delay chime is a confirmation chime that informs the driver that the headlamp exit delay (home safe lighting) feature has been enabled. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives the home safe light indication request from the BCM (Body Control Module).
Low Fuel Warning Chime
The low fuel warning chime sounds to draw the drivers attention to the low fuel warning indicator operation and inform the driver of a low fuel condition. REFER to Low Fuel Indicator . The chime sounds when the low fuel warning indicator illuminates.
