Diagnostic Overview

The Door Lock Control Switch Indicator is Inoperative or Always On

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 110 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operations and Fault Conditions

The BCM (Body Control Module) controls the door lock control switch indicator. The door lock control switch is illuminated when the doors are locked and off when any of the doors are unlocked. The BCM (Body Control Module) provides voltage to the door lock control switch indicator and the indicator uses a common ground in the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) (premium sound system) or door lock control switch (Sony(R) sound system). When the ignition is in the ON mode, the indicator is always on as long as the doors are locked. When the ignition is in the OFF mode, the indicator illuminates for approximately 30 seconds when a lock command is received and then it turns off.

The BCM (Body Control Module) receives the door latch status messages from the DDM (Driver Door Module) and the PDM (Passenger Door Module) over the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network). Each door module monitors the lock/unlock feedback circuits for the latch in the corresponding door. All 4 door latches have an internal lock/unlock feedback switch that are connected to ground when the door is unlocked and open when the door is locked. The ground for the door latches is provided by the door modules.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

- Inspect the door lock control switch.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR OPERATION

1. Close all 4 doors and the liftgate/luggage compartment lid.

2. Press the lock button on a RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter.

3. Attempt to open each door using the outside door handle.

4. Press the unlock button twice on a RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter.

5. Attempt to open each door using the outside door handle.

Is there a door that can be opened when the doors are locked or that cannot be opened when the doors are unlocked?

2. CHECK THE DOOR AJAR INPUT

1. Open and close the doors while checking the courtesy lamp operation.

Do the courtesy lamps operate correctly?

3. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE LOCK/UNLOCK INPUTS

1. Press the unlock button twice on a RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter to unlock all 4 doors.

2. Using a scan tool, view the DDM (Driver Door Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications) (LF_DLOCK_SW) and (LR_DLOCK_SW).

3. Using a scan tool, view the PDM (Passenger Door Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications) (FR_DLOCK_SW) and (RR_DLOCK_SW).

4. Press the lock button on a RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter to lock all 4 doors.

5. Using a scan tool, view the DDM (Driver Door Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications) (LF_DLOCK_SW) and (LR_DLOCK_SW).

6. Using a scan tool, view the PDM (Passenger Door Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications) (FR_DLOCK_SW) and (RR_DLOCK_SW).

Do all 4 PIDs (Parameter Identifications) display INACTIVE when the doors are locked, and UNLOCKED when the doors are unlocked?

4. CHECK THE ILLUMINATION OF THE INDICATOR

1. Ignition ON.

2. Observe the illumination of the door lock indicator with the doors unlocked.

Is the indicator always illuminated?

5. CHECK THE INDICATOR OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280C.

3. Disconnect: Ignition Relay.

4. Connect a fused jumper wire:

5. Observe the illumination of the door lock indicator.

Is the indicator still illuminated?

6. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE HAZARD LAMPS

1. Press the hazard switch.

Do the hazard lamps operate?

7. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE DOOR LOCK CONTROL SWITCH INDICATOR

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Door Lock/Hazard Switch (vehicles with Sony(R) sound system).

3. Disconnect: FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) (vehicles with premium sound system).

4. Ignition ON.

5. Press the lock button on a RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter.

6. For vehicles with premium sound system, measure:

7. For vehicles with Sony(R) sound system, measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

8. CHECK THE INDICATOR OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280C.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

9. CHECK THE INDICATOR OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. For vehicles with premium sound system, measure:

2. For vehicles with Sony(R) sound system, measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

10. CHECK THE SUSPECT LATCH SWITCH FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: Suspect Door Latch.

2. Connect a fused jumper wire:

3. Using a scan tool, view the DDM (Driver Door Module) and PDM (Passenger Door Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications):

- Driver door lock/unlock feedback switch (LF_DLOCK_SW)
- Driver rear door lock/unlock feedback switch (LR_DLOCK_SW)
- Passenger front door lock/unlock feedback switch(FR_DLOCK_SW)
- Passenger rear door lock/unlock feedback switch (RR_DLOCK_SW)

Does the PID (Parameter Identification) in question display UNLOCKED?

11. CHECK THE SUSPECT LOCK/UNLOCK MONITOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Door Module for the lock/unlock feedback switch in question.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

12. CHECK THE SUSPECT LATCH SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Disconnect: Suspect Door Latch.

2. Using a scan tool, view the DDM (Driver Door Module) and PDM (Passenger Door Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications):
