PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION

Door Ajar Warning Chime
The door ajar warning chime feature is controlled by the smart junction box (SJB). The driver and passenger door ajar switches are hardwired to the SJB. If any door is sensed as being open, and the ignition switch is in the ON position, the SJB processes the input and sends a chime request to the instrument cluster over the controller area network (CAN).

Safety Belt Warning Chime
The safety belt chime feature is controlled by the restraints control module (RCM). The driver safety belt switch is hardwired to the RCM. The RCM communicates with the instrument cluster over a hardwire connection. If at any time during the first 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the ON position the driver safety belt is sensed as being unfastened, the RCM processes the input, and in turn, sends a chime request to the instrument cluster.

Headlamp-On Warning Chime
This function provides an audible warning to the operator of the vehicle that the head/parking lamps are ON when the ignition switch is in the OFF position and the driver door is open. The headlamp-on warning chime sounds at twice the rate of the door ajar chime.

Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime
This function provides an audible warning that the key is left in the ignition switch while the vehicle is not running and the driver door is open.

Air Bag Warning Chime
The air bag warning chime function warns the driver that the air bag warning indicator lamp is not operating and a fault has occurred in the air bag system by sounding a chime when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

Safety Belt Minder

NOTE: The safety belt minder feature is configurable. If configuring using a diagnostic tool, refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network). To configure without using a diagnostic tool, refer to Safety Belt Minder Deactivating/Activating. Safety Belt Minder Deactivating/Activating

The safety belt minder feature supplements the current safety belt warning function. The safety belt minder feature is enabled after the current safety belt warning is complete. If the driver safety belt is not buckled approximately 5 seconds after the safety belt warning light is turned off, the safety belt minder reminds the driver that his/her safety belt is unbuckled by intermittently sounding a chime and illuminating the safety belt warning lamp in the instrument cluster. While activated, the safety belt minder alternates the chime and indicator from on for 6 seconds to off for 30 seconds.

The safety belt minder reminder stops when:
- the driver safety belt is buckled.
- the ignition switch is turned to OFF or ACCESSORY.
- 5 minutes have elapsed since belt minder has started.

Parking Brake Warning Chime
This function provides an audible warning to the operator of the vehicle that the parking brake is ON when the ignition switch is in the ON position, and the vehicle speed is above 5 km/h (3 mph). The parking brake warning chime stops when:
- the parking brake is released.
- the ignition switch is turned to OFF or ACC.
- vehicle speed is below 5 km/h (3 mph).
