Diagnostic Routine E
Diagnostic Overview
The Engine Does Not Start
Normal Operations and Fault Conditions
The PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) disables the engine from starting by disabling the fuel injectors and starter. When the ignition is turned to the RUN or START position, the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) reads the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) key and checks the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) identification. If an unprogrammed PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) key is used or an invalid PCM (Powertrain Control Module) identification is received, the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) disables the engine. If there is a PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) concern that caused the engine to be disabled, STARTING SYSTEM FAULT is displayed in the message center.
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK FOR COMMUNICATION WITH THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) AND THE BCM (Body Control Module)
1. Using a scan tool, perform the network test.
Does the scan tool establish communication with the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and the BCM (Body Control Module)?
2. CHECK FOR BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.
Are any BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?
