Diagnostic Routine A
Diagnostic Routine A
Diagnostic Overview
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 14 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 25 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation
The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) communicates with the scan tool through the HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network). An IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) session cannot be established if the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) communication fails when attempting to identify the vehicle.
Pinpoint Test
1. VERIFY WHETHER OTHER HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network) MODULES PASS THE NETWORK TEST
1. Using a scan tool, perform a network test.
Is the text "pass" or a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) listed next to any of the following modules (if equipped): APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module), ATCM (All Terrain Control Module), ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module, BCM (Body Control Module), C-CM (Cruise-Control Module), FLM (Front Lighting Control Module), HUD (Head Up Display) module, IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), OCSM (Occupant Classification System Module), PAM (Parking Aid Module), PSCM (Power Steering Control Module), PCM (Powertrain Control Module), RCM (Restraints Control Module) or SCCM (Steering Column Control Module)?
2. COMPUTERS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS INFORMATION PINPOINT TEST QA VERIFICATION CHECK
1. Verify that Computers and Control Systems Information pinpoint test QA has been carried out.
Has pinpoint test QA been carried out?
3. CHECK THE HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network) TERMINATION RESISTANCE
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Measure:
Is the resistance between 54 and 66 ohms?
4. CHECK THE HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network) CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) AND THE DLC (Data Link Connector) FOR AN OPEN
1. Disconnect: PCM (Powertrain Control Module) C175B (3.5L), or C1381B (2.0L).
2. 3.5L engine, measure:
3. 2.0L engine, measure:
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
5. CHECK THE HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network) CIRCUITS FOR BEING SHORTED TOGETHER
1. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280F.
2. Measure:
Is the resistance less that 10,000 ohms?
6. CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (Powertrain Control Module) OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect and inspect the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) connectors.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (replace connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- replace pins as necessary
4. Reconnect the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
5. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present
Is the concern still present?
