Instrument Panel






INSTRUMENT PANEL

WARNING: Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

NOTE: Left hand drive shown. Right hand drive similar.

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the A-pillar trim from the driver side. A-Pillar Trim Panel - Removal
3. Remove driver side end cap. Instrument Panel End Cap - Removal
4. Position aside the door scuff and remove the driver's side cowl trim panel. Cowl Trim Panel - Removal
5. Remove the center bezel. Instrument Panel Center Bezel - Removal




6. Remove four bolts (1) behind center bezel.





7. Remove the bolts (1) for the shifter assembly (2) and position aside.

STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL





1. Reposition the floor carpeting to access the steering column coupling at the base of the column.
2. Position the front wheels of vehicle in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position, then turn the steering wheel to the right until the intermediate shaft coupling bolt (3) at the base of the column can be accessed.
3. Remove the intermediate shaft coupling bolt (3). Do not separate the intermediate shaft (2) from the steering gear pinion shaft (4) at this time.
4. Return the front wheels of vehicle (and steering wheel) to the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position.

5. Position the column tilt at the full-upward position.
6. Remove the steering column opening cover (5)Steering Column Opening Cover - Removal.





7. Remove the steering column cover reinforcement panel (1) four screws (2).





8. Remove the two screws (4) attaching the upper shroud (1) to the lower shroud (2). After removing the screws, unclip the shrouds from each other by applying hand pressure along the seams where the shrouds connect on the sides, then remove the upper shroud.
9. Push the tilt lever (5) downward.
10. Remove the screw (3) attaching the lower shroud (2) to the steering column (6). Remove the lower shroud.
11. Push the tilt lever (5) upward, locking it in place.





12. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, disconnect the ignition shift interlock cable at the steering column. To do so, insert the ignition key into the key cylinder and turn it to the ON position. Depress the tab on top of the interlock cable connector (2) and pull the cable out of the lock cylinder housing (1).





13. Disconnect wireless control node antenna cable.
14. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors (2) at the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) (1).
15. Disconnect all other wiring harness connectors at column components.





16. Separate the intermediate shaft (2) at the base of the column from the steering gear pinion shaft (4).





17. Remove the one mounting bolt (left lower) (2) attaching the steering column to the instrument panel (3).
18. Remove the three mounting nuts (1) attaching the steering column to the instrument panel (3).
19. Remove the steering column from the vehicle.





20. Pull back carpet gaining access to center console wire connectors.
21. Disconnect instrument panel center console wire harness (1).





22. Disconnect instrument panel wire harness (1) from (2) and (3),(7) and (5) located behind cowl panel.





23. Disconnect the cabin heater electrical connector from HVAC (2), if equipped.





24. Disconnect the electrical connector (1).
25. Remove the nut (2) and separate the ground (3) and harness from the A-pillar.





26. Remove the driver side mounting bolts (1) and the tunnel bolt (2).

27. Remove the two push pin fasteners from under the glove box and remove the closeout panel.
28. Remove glove box. Instrument Panel Glove Box - Removal
29. Position aside the door sill scuff plate and remove the passenger side cowl trim panel. Cowl Trim Panel - Removal
30. Remove passenger side end cap. Instrument Panel End Cap - Removal




31. Remove the passenger side mounting bolts (1).





32. Disconnect the radio antenna cable (1).





33. Remove the defroster grille. Instrument Panel Pad - Removal
34. Remove the upper mounting bolts (1).





35. Disconnect the passenger side electrical connector (1) and ground (2).





36. With the help of assistant, remove instrument panel through driver side door.
