Crankshaft - Installation
INSTALLATION
1. Select the proper main bearings Service and Repair.
2. Install main bearings in block and caps, and lubricate bearings.
3. Position the crankshaft into the cylinder block.
4. Install the thrust washers (1).
CAUTION: The overuse of oils on the threads may cause a Hydro-Lock condition at which may cause inaccurate readings. Incorrect torque values may occur.
NOTE: The main cap crossbolts are torqued after final torque of the main cap bolts. Always use a new crossbolts.
5. Clean and apply a light oil film to all cap bolts. Install all main bearing caps (1). Install all M12 cap bolts and alternately tighten in two steps using the following sequence.
6. Step 1 - 28 Nm ( 20 ft. lbs.).
7. Step 2 - Turn main cap bolts an additional 90°.
8. Install the M8 crossbolts with attached washer/gasket. Starting with crossbolt A, tighten each crossbolt to 31 Nm ( 23 ft. lbs.).
9. Repeat crossbolt tightening procedure.
10. Measure crankshaft end play Service and Repair.
11. Position the connecting rods onto the crankshaft and install the rod bearing caps . Piston And Connecting Rod - Installation
12. Install timing drive (2) Timing Chain & Sprockets - Installation.
13. Install oil pump Engine Oil Pump - Installation.
14. Install the timing chain case cover (1)Engine Timing Cover(s) - Installation.
15. Install the rear main seal and retainer Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Retainer - Installation.
16. Install the windage tray/oil pan gasket.
17. Install the oil pick up tube.
18. Install the oil pan Engine Oil Pan - Installation.
19. Install the vibration damper Vibration Damper - Installation.
20. Install the engine Engine - Installation.
21. Connect the negative battery cable.
