Differential Oil Cooler Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service Intervals)
2. Loosen the hose clamps for the clamps inlet and outlet hoses.

Important: When removing or installing of the inlet or outlet hoses, note the routing of the hoses for the proper clearances.


3. Remove the inlet and outlet hoses from the differential.
4. Plug or cap the outlet fitting.
5. Support the differential cooler assembly with a transmission jack or the appropriate support.




6. Disconnect the electrical connector for the differential cooler (1).
7. Remove the differential cooler wiring harness from the retainer on the frame.
8. Remove the hose from the differential coolant pump to the cooler. Refer to Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose, Cooler Outlet Hose, and Pump Inlet Hose Replacement (Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose, Cooler Outlet Hose, and Pump Inlet Hose Replacement) .
9. Remove the mounting nuts (2) for the differential cooler assembly.
10. Remove the differential cooler assembly (3).




11. Disconnect the electrical connector for the differential cooler fan (1).
12. Remove the retaining nuts for the differential cooler (2).
13. Remove the differential cooler (3) from the carrier (4).



Installation Procedure





1. Install the differential cooler (3) in the carrier (4).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

2. Install the differential cooler retaining nuts (2).

Tighten the retaining nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

3. Install the hose from the differential coolant pump to the cooler. Refer to Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose, Cooler Outlet Hose, and Pump Inlet Hose Replacement (Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose, Cooler Outlet Hose, and Pump Inlet Hose Replacement) .
4. Install the differential cooler wiring harness in the retainer on the frame.
5. Reconnect the electrical connector for the cooling fan (1).




6. Install the differential cooler assembly (3) on the rear floor.
7. Position the coolers hoses over the rear drive axle.
8. Install the mounting nuts (2) for the differential cooler.

Tighten the mounting nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

9. Remove the support for the differential cooler assembly.
10. Connect the electrical connector (1).




11. Remove the cap or plug from the outlet fitting.
12. Install the differential cooler hoses on the differential.

Tighten the mounting nuts to 3 N.m (27 lb in).

13. Refill the differential cooler with the proper fluid. Refer to Axle Lubricant Change (W/O Differential Cooler) (Rear Drive Axle) .
14. Lower the vehicle.
