Electronic Parking Brake Control Module Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Release the electric parking brake (EPB) using the electrical release.
Note: Should the electric parking brake release be inoperative, perform a manual release procedure. See corresponding steps below.
2. Turn the ignition on and depress the brake pedal.
3. Press the parking brake switch down, and hold for 5 seconds. A solid yellow EPB symbol will appear on the instrument cluster.
4. Press the parking brake switch down again within 5 seconds. A flashing yellow EPB symbol will appear on the instrument cluster display.
5. Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
7. Remove the left-rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
8. Remove the left-rear wheelhouse panel liner. Refer to Rear Wheelhouse Panel Liner Replacement Service and Repair.
9. Remove the exhaust rear auxiliary muffler heat shield - left side. Refer to Exhaust Rear Auxiliary Muffler Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side Exhaust Rear Auxiliary Muffler Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side.
10. Should the electric parking brake release be inoperative, remove the rubber plug (1) from the rear of the electronic parking brake control module (2), and using a suitably-sized flat-head screwdriver release parking brake cable tension by turning the internal fitting fully clockwise to the stop.
11. Disconnect the electronic parking brake control module wiring harness.
12. Remove the 2 electronic parking brake control module nuts (1).
13. For easier access to the parking brake cable connection, detach the electronic parking brake control module (2) from the rubber mounting grommet (3), and lay the control module (2) aside.
14. Unscrew the parking brake cable connection cover (1) from the electronic parking brake control module (3).
15. Unclip the parking brake cable (2) from the electronic parking brake control module (3).
16. Remove the electronic parking brake control module (3) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the parking brake cable (2) to the electronic parking brake control module (3).
2. Install the parking brake cable connection cover (1).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
3. Install the electronic parking brake control module (2) to the vehicle.
4. Insert the electronic parking brake control module mounting tang into the rubber mounting grommet (3).
5. Install the 2 electronic parking brake control module nuts (1), and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
6. Connect the electronic parking brake control module wiring harness.
7. Install the exhaust rear auxiliary muffler heat shield - left side. Refer to Exhaust Rear Auxiliary Muffler Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side Exhaust Rear Auxiliary Muffler Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side.
8. Install the wheelhouse panel liner. Refer to Rear Wheelhouse Panel Liner Replacement Service and Repair.
9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Connect the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
12. Program the electronic parking brake control module. Refer to Electronic Parking Brake Control Module Programming and Setup Testing and Inspection.
