Back Window Glass: Service and Repair




51 31 200 - Removing and installing/replacing rear window





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove antenna amplifier Service and Repair





Note:
This work step must be carried out with a second person assisting.

Slacken nuts (4) on left/right.

If spacers are fitted, remove them and make a note of number.
Release screw connections (2 and 4) on left/right and remove holder (3).
Feed out cable and remove rear window (1) from hinge (5).
Set rear window (1) down on a clean surface.

Important!
The rear window (with frame) must not be pulled or lifted by its plugs, wires or foil conductor (risk of damage).





Install rear window (1) and fix in place with screws (2).
Observe gap dimensions of rear window (1).
If necessary, adjust rear window Adjustments.





Replacement (51 31 221 and 51 31 231):

Note:
The following assembly work steps are dependent on the vehicle equipment specification and must be adapted accordingly.
For this reason, the required work steps may differ from the work steps shown here.

Warning!
In event of broken rear window:
Remove all glass splinters, also from underneath seats.
Check seat belts:
- Condition of seatbelt strap
- Function of reel mechanism
- Belt interlock
- Belt buckle
