Selector Mechanism

Removing

Proceed as follows:

- Switch ignition off.

- Remove selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Selector Lever Handle.

- Remove center console cover panel.

- Remove ashtray.

- Disconnect electrical connection - A -.





• Ignore - 1, B, C -.

- Disconnect electrical harness connector - 3 - from mass air flow (MAF) sensor (G70).





- Open clips - 1 and 2 - and remove air guide hose from mass air flow (MAF) sensor (G70).

- Remove front air intake nozzle from lock carrier - 4 -.

- Remove engine cover.

- Place selector lever in position P.

- Remove securing plate - C -.





- Press securing plate - A - upward and remove.

- Press selector lever cable off of selector shaft lever - arrow - and remove from bracket - D -.

• Selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.

• Ignore items - 1 and B -.

- Remove oxygen sensor (O2S) behind three way catalytic converter (TWC) (G130).

- Remove exhaust system bracket and tunnel brace - arrows -.





- Remove heat shield - arrows -.





Risk of damaging decoupling elements.

• Do not bend decoupling elements in front exhaust pipe more than 10°.

- Separate exhaust system at clamping sleeve - 1 -.





- Lower front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and front muffler slightly and remove heat shield toward rear.

- Reconnect exhaust system with clamping sleeve.

• A second technician must be under the vehicle to remove the selector mechanism.

- Remove nuts - arrows - (from above).





• Ignore items - 1 and 2 -.

- Remove selector mechanism downward together with selector lever cable.

• Selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.

• Selector mechanism can also be removed without selector lever cable, disconnect selector lever cable from selector mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Service and Repair.

Installing

• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Assembly Overview ] Selector Mechanism Assembly Overview.

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

• Replace selector lever cable securing plate and lock washer.

• Selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.

- Install heat shield.

- Reconnect exhaust system and ensure it is not under stress.

- Install ashtray.

- Install center console trim.

- Install selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Selector Lever Handle.

- Adjust selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- Selector mechanism and ignition key withdrawal lock, checking. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism and Ignition Key Withdrawal Lock, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.
