Camshaft Adjuster
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Socket (T40080)
• Camshaft Clamp (T10252)
• Toothed Belt Tensioner (T10020)
• Locking Pin (T10115)
• Retainer (3036)
• Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)
Removing
- Remove the high pressure pump.
- Remove cylinder head cover. Refer to => [ Cylinder Head Cover ] Cylinder Head Cover.
- Remove vacuum pump.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
• Ignore - 1 -.
- Clamp off coolant hoses - 1 - and - 2 - with (3094) and remove them.
- Remove the bolt - 3 - and press the coolant ventilation line back slightly.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.
- Remove the wiring harness bracket - 2 -.
• Ignore - 3 -.
- Free up the wiring harness - arrows - and remove the bracket bolt - 1 -.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the camshaft adjuster housing.
Components could be destroyed by the toothed belt jump off.
• Only rotate the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation.
- Turn the crankshaft by the toothed belt crankshaft sprocket bolt until the camshaft sprocket is at "TDC".
• The marking on the camshaft sprocket must align with the arrow on the toothed belt guard - top arrow -.
• The notch on the vibration damper must align with the arrow on the toothed belt guard - bottom arrow -.
• The cams - A - on both camshafts are symmetrical to each other.
• The notches - arrows - on both camshafts must align.
- Position the (T10252) and tighten it - arrows - as illustrated.
- Also counterhold the camshaft toothed belt sprocket with the (3036).
- Loosen the camshaft adjuster bolt approximately 1/2 turn with the (T40080).
- Press the chain tensioner down - arrow A - and secure with the (T10115) - arrow B -.
- Remove the camshaft adjuster bolt and remove the camshaft adjuster with the drive chain.
Installing
• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Valvetrain Overview ] Valvetrain Overview
• The camshafts are secured with the (T10252)
• Replace the camshaft adjuster bolt.
- Place the drive chain on the camshaft adjuster.
- Hold the camshaft adjuster in front of the exhaust camshaft as follows:
• The groove - A - and pin - B - must align.
- With the drive chain in this position, first route it on the intake camshaft chain sprocket at the top - arrow -.
- Rotate the intake camshaft clockwise - arrow A - slowly with the (T10020) until the camshaft adjuster fits on the camshaft.
• If pin does not fit into notch: Remove chain and place the chain on again.
- Tighten the camshaft adjuster bolt with the (T40080).
Installation is done is reverse order, observe the following:
- Install the coolant ventilation line. Refer to => [ Coolant Pipes Overview ] Coolant Pipes Overview.
- Install the vacuum pump.
- Install cylinder head cover. Refer to => [ Cylinder Head Cover ] Cylinder Head Cover
- Install the high pressure pump.
