Air Line: Description and Operation
Air Line, Servicing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Air Hose Pliers (VAS 6228)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1783)
• Standard socket open end 12 mm
Defective air lines do not have to be completely replaced. Partial replacement of the air line is possible using a connector.
Allocation air pipe line/connector, refer to the Parts Catalog.
If the connection leaks, air line can be shortened by 10 mm and a new connecting piece installed. Refer to => [ Connecting Piece, Replacing ] Description and Operation.
• The air line between the air supply unit and the solenoid valve block is replaced completely with original line.
• The other air lines can be serviced with original lines. Original line should be shortened to appropriate lengths for this using (VAS 6228).
• Repair area must be protected from splash water, for example in vehicle interior or between wheel housing liner and wheel housing.
• The connector must be secured to the body or to a wiring conduit with cable ties.
• Clean separation point area before disconnecting air line connector.
• Contaminants entering the lines can lead to system malfunction.
- Clean connector piece area and corresponding separation point.
- Remove connector piece and air line.
- Then mark ends of air line in vehicle and both ends of new air line with a waterproof pen.
With 17 mm or 22 mm markings, check whether connector piece is inserted far enough in the air line.
- Install new line connector.
• Connector pieces in line connector are already tightened to proper torque. Air lines only have to be connected.
- Remove transport protection cap.
- Slide old air line through gaskets - 1 and 2 -.
- Then slide air line with some force through edges - 3 and 4 - of cutting rings as far as stop - 5 - in line connector.
- Repeat procedure with new air line.
