B-Pillar Trim







B-Pillar Trim

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Trim Removal Wedge (3409)

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Note the additional safety precautions when working on the side curtain airbag. Refer to => [ Head Curtain Airbag, Additional Safety Precautions ] Head Curtain Airbag, Additional Safety Precautions.

Do not clamp the head curtain airbag when installing upper A-pillar trim - 1 -.

- Position driver or front passenger seat as far forward as possible using fore and aft adjustment.

- Remove outer seat belt anchorage point (on front seat). Refer to => [ Belt Anchor ] Belt Anchor.

Vehicles with vents in the B-pillar trim

- Carefully unclip the vent from the B-pillar trim starting at the upper side facing the headliner. Press spring clip when doing so.

- Then remove the vent from the B-pillar trim.

Procedure for all vehicles

- Unclip the B-pillar trim from the sill panel and body beginning at lower area using the (3409).

- Remove the B-pillar trim from the headliner and the front belt guide.

- Thread the belt webbing out of the B-pillar trim.

The "airbag" sign on the B-pillar trim is welded on and cannot be removed.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Note the additional safety precautions when working on the side curtain airbag. Refer to => [ Head Curtain Airbag, Additional Safety Precautions ] Head Curtain Airbag, Additional Safety Precautions.

Do not clamp the head curtain airbag when installing upper A-pillar trim - 1 -.

If trim clamps remain in body mounting points, remove these and insert them in trim.

Check clamps for damage or deformation, replace if necessary.

Ensure belt webbing is not twisted.

When installing trim, do not press belt height adjustment button.

During installation, attach trim from bottom upwards toward belt height adjuster.

- Guide belt webbing - 2 - through B-pillar trim - 1 -.






- Engage the B-pillar trim with the tabs in the headliner.

- Secure the B-pillar trim with the 2 pins on the belt guide.

- Ensure that sliding piece mount - 3 - of the B-pillar trim engages in retaining pins - 4 - on the seat belt height adjuster.

- Clip the B-pillar trim in the lower area into the mounts on the body and the sill panel.

- Install outer seat belt anchorage point (on front seat). Refer to => [ Belt Anchor ] Belt Anchor.

Vehicles with vents in the B-pillar trim

- Engage the bottom side of the vent (knurled wheel side) in the B-pillar trim.

- Clip the top side of the vent in the B-pillar trim.

Procedure for all vehicles

- Draw the door seal lip over the B-pillar trim.

Ensure that the B-pillar trim is held securely.

- Check the function of the seat belt height adjuster.

The seat belt height adjuster must engage audibly in each of the possible positions.

Button must return to upper position by itself after being pressed.
