Removal and Replacement
Selector Lever Shaft Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror (80 - 200)
Procedure
- Remove the left front muffler.
- Remove the ATF oil pan. Refer to => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the ATF filter. Refer to => [ ATF Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the Mechatronic. Refer to => [ Mechatronic Unit ] Mechatronic Unit.
- If equipped, remove the bolts - arrows -, then remove the heat shield.
- Remove the ball socket - 1 - on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the (80 - 200).
• Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
- Remove the spring pin - 2 - on the shaft for the selector lever using a pin punch - 1 -.
- Remove the selector lever and shaft - arrow -.
- Pry out the shaft seal using a small screwdriver.
- Apply ATF to the circumference and the space between the sealing lips of the new shaft seal.
• Installed position: Open side of shaft seal faces transmission.
- Mount the shaft seal on the transmission housing and push it in all the way using a suitable socket - arrow -.
- Install the selector lever and shaft.
• If the actuator rod for the locking latch moves too far to the rear, then it can be pulled forward - arrow 2 - while pushing the locking latch at the same time - arrow 1 -.
- Install the spring pin - 2 - flush on the shaft for the selector lever using a pin punch - 1 -.
- Install the Mechatronic. Refer to => [ Mechatronic Unit ] Mechatronic Unit.
- Install the ATF filter. Refer to => [ ATF Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Install the ATF pan. Refer to => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
- Install the exhaust system.
- Fill the ATF. Refer to => [ ATF, Draining or Filling after Repair ] ATF, Draining or Filling After Repair.
