Removing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Pyrotechnic, Electrical and Mechanical Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and Testing Procedures ] Testing and Inspection.
• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Remove the front seat. Refer to => [ Standard Seat and Sport Seat, Manual ] Standard Seat and Sport Seat, Manual.
- Attach front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Installing Front Seat on Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136 ] Installing Front Seat on Fixture For Seat Repair VAS 6136.
- Remove backrest cover and backrest cushion. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover with Backrest Cushion, Standard Seat/Sport Seat ] Backrest Cover With Backrest Cushion, Standard Seat/Sport Seat.
- Remove the springs - A through D - from the backrest frame - 1 -.
• The pull-springs - A through D - can also stay engaged in the backrest frame - 1 - and the spring mat - 2 - can be disengaged directly from the pull-springs.
- Move the spring mat - 2 - forward.
- Remove the spring mat through the openings in the backrest frame.
Installation
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Pyrotechnic, Electrical and Mechanical Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and Testing Procedures ] Testing and Inspection.
• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Label the springs - A through D - as shown in the illustration.
• Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.
• If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again => Vehicle Diagnosis Tester
