Selector Shaft Seal






Selector Shaft Seal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Sleeve (VW 423)

Pulling Hook (T20143/1)

Grease, refer to the Parts Catalog

Procedure

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Flange Shaft, Seals and Bracket on Bevel Box Overview ] Description and Operation.

- Remove the selector lever cable from the transmission. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable.

- Remove nut - arrow -.






- Carefully pry the lever - A - off the selector shaft.

- Pry out shaft seal with (T20143/1).






- Lightly oil outer circumference of new shaft seal.

- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip - arrow - half way with sealing grease; sealing grease, refer to the Parts Catalog.






- Drive in shaft seal as far as stop without tilting it.






Closed side of shaft seal - arrow - faces toward outside.

- Install the transmission shift lever and tighten the nut - arrow -.






The transmission selector lever only fits to the splines in one position.

- Install selector lever cable on transmission shift lever at the transmission. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable.

- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Check and Adjust if Necessary ] Adjustments.
