Steering Gear, Converting from Generation I to Generation II

There are no longer any Generation I steering gears available as replacement parts.

For this reason, Generation II steering gear must be installed for it.

On some vehicles, a few other parts may need to be replaced in addition to the steering gear. The following information explains the vehicles that require this and the procedures. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

The following parts listed must be replaced when replacing a Generation I steering gear with a Generation II steering gear:

The wiring harness must generally be replaced => [ Electrical Wiring ] Steering Gear Overview, Generation I and II.

The subframes with part number 1K0.199.369 through 1K0.199.369.E. must be replaced. Starting with part number 1K0.199.369.F, the subframe no longer needs to be replaced. To order parts from the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA)., ZSB 1K0.199.313 must be ordered with the corresponding index.

It is necessary to replace the right bracket, part number 1K0.199.296 up to and including 1K0.199.296.C on LHD vehicles. From part number 1K0.199.296.D, the bracket no longer needs to be replaced. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
