Selector Shaft Sealing Ring, with Transmission Installed

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pulling Hook (T20143/1)

Tube (VW 423)

Assembly sleeve (01E 311 120)

Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

- If present, loosen quick-release connectors - 3 - and remove rear noise insulation - B -.





- Remove noise insulation for drive axles from wheel housing at left and right - arrows -.





- Remove left drive axle heat shield, if equipped - arrows - (3 bolts).





- Remove left front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter, if equipped.

- Remove nut - 1 - and pull transmission shift lever - 2 - from selector shaft of transmission.





- Carefully pry off the sealing ring using Pulling Hook (T20143/1) without damaging the selector shaft.

Check the selector shaft for damage.

Installing

- To prevent damage to the seal - C -, the installation of the seal and selector shaft must only be performed with the Assembly Sleeve (01E 311 120) - A -.





- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Lightly oil outer circumference of seal.

- Install the sealing ring - arrow - into the housing up to the stop.





- Mount the transmission shift lever - 2 - and tighten the nut - 1 -. Tightening specification => [ (Item 6) Nut - 20 Nm ] Selector Rod, Connecting Rod and Push Rod Assembly Overview.





The rest of installation follows the reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Align the exhaust system free-of-tension.

- Check gear oil level in manual transmission. Refer to => [ Manual Transmission, Checking Gear Oil Level ] 0A3A Transmission.
