Center Differential Housing, Transmission Installed

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Drip Tray (V.A.G 1306)

Removing

• Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise it may be damaged.

- Disconnect exhaust system at double clamps - arrows -.





- Disengage rear part of exhaust system at retaining loops and remove.

• To remove the rear section of the exhaust system, a second technician will be required.

- Remove driveshaft heat shield - arrows -.





- Remove exhaust system heat shield - 1 - below shift mechanism - arrows -.





- Remove bolts - arrows - at transmission/driveshaft flange.





- Push driveshaft toward rear final drive. CV joints can be moved axially.

- Tie driveshaft up to side.

- Place Drip Tray (V.A.G 1306) under transmission.

- Drain gear oil.

- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove center differential housing.

Installing

Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:

• Fasten driveshaft to transmission.

• Always replace O-rings, seals and self-locking nuts.

- Mount center differential housing and tighten bolts - arrows -. Tightening specification => [ (Item 2) Bolt 24 Nm ] Center Differential and Center Differential Housing Assembly Overview.

- Top off transmission oil and check oil level. Refer to => [ Manual Transmission, Checking Gear Oil Level ] 0A3A Transmission.

- Reconnect exhaust system and ensure it is not under stress.
