Exhaust System Component Overview
1 Turbocharger
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Turbocharger ] Turbocharger
2 Gasket
• Replace
3 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (G39)(before catalytic converter)
• Black harness connector
• The threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body.
• When re-using the old oxygen sensor, grease the threads with hot bolt paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body; hot bolt paste.
• Removing and installing, refer to => Fuel Delivery and Air Induction Fuel Delivery and Air Induction
• Tighten to 55 Nm.
4 Oxygen Sensor (O2S) Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G130)
• Brown harness connector
• The threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body.
• When re-using the old oxygen sensor, grease the threads with hot bolt paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body; hot bolt paste.
• Removing and installing, refer to => Fuel Delivery and Air Induction Fuel Delivery and Air Induction
• Tighten to 55 Nm.
5 Catalytic converter
• Protect from shocks and impact stress
• With front exhaust pipe, removing and installing, refer to => [ Catalytic Converter with Front Exhaust Pipe ] Catalytic Converter With Front Exhaust Pipe.
• Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures
6 Gasket
• Replace
7 25 Nm
8 Front exhaust pipe
• With flex joint
• Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10° or it could be damaged.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Front Exhaust Pipe ] Front Exhaust Pipe
• Install exhaust system free of stress. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures.
9 Front clamping sleeve
• Before tightening, align exhaust system tension-free. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures
• Installation position of bolt ends => [ Installed position of front clamping sleeve ]
• Tighten threaded connections evenly.

11 Spacer sleeve
12 Buffer

16 Left rear muffler
• Original equipment as one unit with center muffler. For repairs, replace each separately.
• Separating point => [ Separate the exhaust pipes at the separating
point using at a right angle. ] Service and Repair
• Replacing end pipe, refer to => [ Tail Pipe ] Tail Pipe
• Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures
17 Suspended mount
• Replace if damaged
• Check pretension, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures
18 25 Nm
19 Right rear muffler
• Original equipment as one unit with center muffler. For repairs, replace each separately.
• Separating point => [ Separate the exhaust pipes at the separating
point using at a right angle. ] Service and Repair
• Replacing end pipe, refer to => [ Tail Pipe ] Tail Pipe
• Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures
20 40 Nm
21 Rear clamping sleeves
• For replacing the center muffler and both rear mufflers.
• Before tightening, align exhaust system tension-free, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures
• Installed location => [ Installed position of rear double clamps ]
• Tighten threaded connections evenly.
22 Center muffler
• Original equipment as one unit with both rear mufflers. For repairs, replace each separately.
• Separating point => [ Separate the exhaust pipes at the separating
point using at a right angle. ] Service and Repair
• Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures
23 25 Nm
24 Suspended mount
• Replace if damaged
• Check pretension, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures

28 Spacing sleeve

• Replace

• Replace
Installed position of front clamping sleeve
- When installing the double clamp, ensure that the bolt end does not project over the lower edge of double clamp.
• Bolt points to the left
Installed position of rear double clamps
- When installing the double clamps, ensure that the bolt ends do not project beyond the lower edge of the double clamp.
• Threaded connections point toward outside.
