Rear Suspension






Air Spring Damper, Wheel Bearing Housing and Wheel Hub and Bearing Assembly Overview





1 Wheel Bearing Housing

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing ] Wheel Bearing Housing.

Bushing removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing Bushing ] Wheel Bearing Housing Bushing.

2 Eccentric Bolt

Adjust the camber after loosening. Refer to => [ Rear Camber, Adjusting ] Rear Camber, Adjusting.

Do not turn more than 90° right or left (that is smallest to largest possible adjustment).

3 Wheel Bearing

Wheel hub and bearing, disassembling and assembling, refer to => [ Wheel Hub and Bearing ] Overhaul.

4 Tie Rod

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Tie Rod ] Tie Rod.

The tie rod must be replaced if it was loosened from the connecting link, - item 20 - in => [ Stabilizer Bar, Track Control Arm, Tie Rod, Coupling Rod, Connecting Link, Trailing Arm and Level Control System Sensor Assembly Overview ] Stabilizer Bar, Track Control Arm, Tie Rod, Coupling Rod, Connecting Link, Trailing Arm and Level Control System Sensor Assembl.

5 Slide Washer

Always replace together with the wheel bearing - item 3 - or wheel hub - item 6 -.

Slide washer, with a 85 mm diameter wheel bearing, replacing. Refer to => [ Replacing The Slide Washer, 85 mm Diameter Wheel Bearings ] Overhaul.

Slide washer, with a 92 mm diameter wheel bearing, replacing. Refer to => [ Replacing The Slide Washer, 92 mm Diameter Wheel Bearings ] Overhaul.

6 Wheel Hub

Wheel hub and bearing, disassembling and assembling, refer to => [ Wheel Hub and Bearing ] Overhaul.

7 Wheel Hub and Bearing

Consists of the wheel bearing - item 3 -, slide washer - item 5 - and wheel hub - item 6 -.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Hub and Bearing ] Rear Suspension.

8 Cover Plate

9 Bolt, 10 Nm

10 Bolt

Always replace.

Follow the correct sequence when loosening, refer to => [ Drive Axle ] Drive Axle, and tightening => [ Installing ] Drive Axle.

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Installing ] Drive Axle.

11 Bracket

for the brake caliper wiring harness.

Tighten with the cover plate - item 8 - to the wheel bearing housing.

12 Connecting Link

Connects the tie rod with the wheel bearing housing and trailing arm.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Connecting Link ] Connecting Link.

13 Washer

14 Self Locking Nut, 75 Nm + 45° additional turn

Always replace.

15 Drive Axle

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Drive Axle ] Drive Axle.

Disassembling and assembling, refer to one of the following:

=> [ Drive Axle, 88 mm Outer CV Joint ] Drive Axle, with 88 mm Outer CV Joint.

=> [ Drive Axle, 100 mm Outer CV Joint ] Drive Axle, with 100 mm Outer CV Joint.

16 Drive Axle Cover

17 Bolt, 23 Nm

18 Backing Plate

19 Bolt, 70 Nm

First tighten all the bolts to 15 Nm. Then tighten all the bolts to specification.

20 Stub Axle

21 Bolt, 8 Nm

22 Bracket

For the speed sensor wiring harness.

23 Wheel Speed Sensor

With the O-ring.

24 Trailing Arm

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Trailing Arm ] Trailing Arm.

25 Bonded Rubber Bushing

With a large contact surface.

Always replace the bushings on both sides of the vehicle.

Replace along with bonded rubber bushing - item 26 -.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing Bushing ] Wheel Bearing Housing Bushing.

26 Bonded Rubber Bushing

With a small contact surface.

Always replace the bushings on both sides of the vehicle.

Replace along with bonded rubber bushing - item 25 -.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing Bushing ] Wheel Bearing Housing Bushing.

27 Bolt

Follow the tightening sequence:

80 Nm + 135° additional turn.

Rotate bolt back 360 degrees.

80 Nm + 90° additional turn.

Always replace.

Raise the wheel bearing housing to the control position to remove the lower bolts.

28 Eccentric Washer

Inner bore with tab.

29 Self Locking Nut, 95 Nm

Always replace.

Raise the wheel bearing housing before tightening, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing, Raising to Control Position to Tighten Bolts ] Procedures. (except for vehicle alignment).

30 Bolt, 80 Nm + 90° additional turn

Always replace.

Rest the vehicle on its wheels (standard level) before tightening.

31 Self Locking Nut

Always replace.

32 Track Control Arm

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Track Control Arm ] Track Control Arm.

33 Self Locking Nut, 9 Nm

Always replace.

34 Bolt, 28 Nm

Quantity: 3.

35 Air Spring Damper

The boot must not have any pressure points. Correct them if necessary. Refer to => [ Air Spring Damper Boot, Correcting Pressure Points ] Air Spring Damper Boot, Correcting Pressure Points.

Note the different suspension versions. Refer to => [ PR Number Explanations ] Application and ID.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Air Spring Damper ] Rear Suspension.

Disassembling and assembling, refer to => [ Air Spring Damper ] Air Spring Damper.

36 Air line

Colors: left rear - black; right rear - blue.

Air line, servicing. Refer to => [ Air Line, Servicing ] Pneumatic Level Control System.

Replace the connector piece - item 37 - if leaking. Refer to => [ Connector Piece, Replacing ] Pneumatic Level Control System.

37 Connector Piece, 3 Nm

Always observe the tightening specification!

Only remove if the vehicle is raised and the air spring damper is unloaded (otherwise, there is a risk of injury from lowering vehicle).

Replace the air line, refer to => [ Air Line, Servicing ] Pneumatic Level Control System, or the connector piece, refer to => [ Connector Piece, Replacing ] Pneumatic Level Control System if leaking.

Clean the connections before loosening.

Air escapes when the connections are loosened.

Protect the threaded connection from dirt.

38 Residual Pressure Retaining Valve

Do NOT loosen!

39 Bolt, 9 Nm
