Panoramic Glass Roof Seal Replacement

Windshield Upper Molding
NOTE:
- Take care not to scratch the body or the glass.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
1. Remove the windshield upper molding (A) from the upper edge of the windshield (B). If necessary, cut off the molding with a utility knife.
2. Scrape off the remaining double-sided adhesive tape (A) with a putty knife from the windshield (B).
NOTE: Do not scrape down to the painted surface of the body; damaged paint will interfere with proper bonding.
3. Clean the windshield bonding surface with a shop towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, do not allow oil, grease, and water to contact on the clean surface.
4. Attach the windshield upper seal (A) with adhesive tape to the inside surface of the windshield upper molding (B) as shown.
5. Apply a light coat of glass primer to the attaching surface of the windshield (A) with a 2 mm (0.08 in) nozzle (B). Let the glass primer dry for at least 10 minutes:
- Do not apply body primer.
- Attach the windshield upper molding within 30 minutes after applying the glass primer.
6. Fold the edge of the adhesive backing (A) at each end on the new windshield upper molding (B).
7. Hold the molding piece to the windshield (C) and center it, then install it on the upper edge of the windshield. Be careful not to touch the windshield where the adhesive tape will be applied.
8. Push the back of the windshield upper molding (A) against the edge of the windshield (B) with a plastic spatula from end to end.
9. Carefully pull off the entire adhesive backing (A).
NOTE: Take care not to tear off the adhesive backing and leave any of the adhesive backing on the molding.
10. Press the entire windshield upper molding (A) against the upper edge of the windshield with a plastic spatula to attach the molding with adhesive tape (B). Push the molding evenly from end to end and secure it into place.
11. After installing, check the molding for kinks or bindings.
12. Reinstall all remaining removed parts.
Glass Front Gap Seal
NOTE: The illustrations show the case that the moving glass panel is removed.
1. Open the moving glass panel. If required, remove the moving glass panel Service and Repair.
2. Remove the glass front gap seal (A) from the rear edge of the front fixed glass panel (B). If necessary, cut off the gap seal with a utility knife.
3. Scrape off the remaining double-sided adhesive tape (A) with a putty knife from the front fixed glass panel (B).
NOTE: Do not scrape down to the painted surface of the body; damaged paint will interfere with proper bonding.
4. Clean the front fixed glass panel bonding surface with a shop towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, do not allow oil, grease, and water to contact on the clean surface.
5. Apply a light coat of glass primer to the attaching surface of the front fixed glass panel (A) with a nozzle. Let the glass primer dry for at least 10 minutes:
- Do not apply body primer.
- Attach the glass front gap seal within 30 minutes after applying the glass primer.
6. Fold the edge of the adhesive backing (A) at each side on a new glass front gap seal (B).
NOTE: The end of the front gap seal must contact the side seal.
7. Set the glass front gap seal (A) under the rear edge of the front fixed glass panel (B) with a plastic spatula from end to end.
8. Carefully pull out the entire adhesive backing (A) while pulling up the edge of the glass front gap seal (B).
NOTE: Take care not to tear off the adhesive backing and leave any of the adhesive backing on the seal.
9. Press down on the entire glass front gap seal (A) against under the rear edge of the front fixed glass panel with a plastic spatula to attach the gap seal with adhesive tape (B). Push the gap seal evenly from end to end and securely into place.
10. Reinstall all remaining removed parts.
11. Check the glass front gap seal for kinks or bindings after opening and closing the moving glass panel.
Glass Rear Gap Seal
NOTE: The illustrations show the case that the moving glass panel is removed.
1. Tilt the moving glass panel all the way up. If required, remove the moving glass panel Service and Repair.
2. Remove the glass rear gap seal (A) from the front edge of the rear fixed glass panel (B). If necessary, cut off the gap seal with a utility knife.
3. Scrape off the remaining double-sided adhesive tape (A) with a putty knife from the rear fixed glass panel (B).
NOTE: Do not scrape down to the painted surface of the body; damaged paint will interfere with proper bonding.
4. Clean the rear fixed glass panel bonding surface with a shop towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, do not allow oil, grease, and water to contact on the clean surface.
5. Apply a light coat of glass primer to the attaching surface of the rear fixed glass panel (A) with a nozzle. Let the glass primer dry for at least 10 minutes:
- Do not apply body primer.
- Attach the glass rear gap seal within 30 minutes after applying the glass primer.
6. Fold the edge of the adhesive backing (A) at each end on a new glass rear gap seal (B).
NOTE: The end of the rear gap seal must contact the side seal.
7. Set the glass rear gap seal (A) under the front edge of the rear fixed glass panel (B) with a plastic spatula from end to end.
8. Carefully pull out the entire adhesive backing (A).
NOTE: Take care not to tear off the adhesive backing and leave any of the adhesive backing on the glass rear gap seal (B).
9. Press down on the entire glass rear gap seal (A) against under the front edge of the rear fixed glass panel with a plastic spatula to attach the gap seal with adhesive tape (B). To prevent binding, push the gap seal evenly from end to end and securely into place.
10. Reinstall all remaining removed parts.
11. Check the glass rear gap seal for kinks or bindings after opening and closing the moving glass panel.
Side Seal
NOTE: The illustrations show the case that the moving glass panel is removed.
1. Remove the windshield side trim Service and Repair.
2. Open the moving glass panel. If required, remove the moving glass panel Service and Repair.
3. Start at the moving glass panel opening, remove the side seal (A) around the front fixed glass panel (B) and the rear fixed glass panel (C).
4. Scrape off the remaining double-sided adhesive tape (A) with a putty knife from the housing.
NOTE: Do not scrape down to the painted surface of the body; damaged paint will interface with proper bonding.
5. Clean the housing bonding surface with a shop towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, do not allow oil, grease, and water to contact on the clean surface.
6. Apply a light coat of the body primer to the attaching surface of the housing (A) with a nozzle. Let the body primer dry for at least 10 minutes:
- Do not apply glass primer.
- Attach the side seal within 30 minutes after applying the body primer.
7. Fold the adhesive backings (A) at each end on a new side seal (B) around the moving glass panel opening.
8. Slip the front edge of the side seal between the front fixed glass panel (C) and the housing (D), then pull the seal toward the windshield (E) until the underside of the seal is flash with the housing as shown. Slip the rear edge of the seal between the rear fixed glass panel (F) and the housing, then pull the seal toward the upper rear window (G).
9. Push the side seal (A) against the housing (B) and the body with a plastic spatula from end to end.
10. Carefully pull the entire adhesive backings (A) away while pulling up the edge of the side seal (B).
NOTE: Take care not to tear off the adhesive backings and leave any of the adhesive backing on the seal.
11. Press the entire side seal (A) against the housing (B) with a plastic spatula to attach the side seal with the adhesive tape (C). To prevent windings, push the side seal evenly from end to end and securely into place.
12. After installing, check the side seal for kinks or bindings.
13. Reinstall all remaining removed parts.
